REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.
For reluctant and emerging readers.
Read to Dogs is held in cooperation with Therapy Dogs of Tenafly. Children read one-on-one to a dog/trainer team for a 20 minute session.
This program typically runs every week through the school year with a break during the summer months.
Why Read to a Dog? Learning to read is often less about intellectual limitation than about overcoming fears. Animals are ideal reading companions because they:
Help increase relaxation and lower blood pressure.
Listen attentively.
Do not laugh, judge, or criticize.
Allow children to proceed at their own pace.
Are less intimidating than peers.
Read to dogs is very popular. We ask that families register no more than 2 times a month.
