Case Update June 7, 2023

On May 31, 2023 at 02:36 pm, Millburn Police Officer Manuyag located a stolen vehicle traveling south on JFK Parkway. The vehicle was a stolen 2019 Honda Accord stolen out of Newark. Officer Manuyag attempted to stop the vehicle and the vehicle fled. Officer Manuyag pursued the vehicle south on JFK Parkway, but shortly after had to terminate due to safety concerns. The stolen vehicle was last seen traveling east on route 24. Several minutes later the stolen vehicle was located parked abandon on Woodcrest Avenue in Springfield NJ. Officer Manuyag and Officer Reid located the driver and passenger of the stolen vehicle walking on Baltusrol way in Springfield. The actors were arrested. The passenger Rundell Williams (20yoa) of Irvington was charged with receiving stolen property and Released on his own recognizance. The driver Samir Kinchen age 18, of Irvington NJ was charged with receiving stolen property, eluding, and hindering apprehension and released on his own recognizance.

On June 1, 2023 at 01:15 pm, Millburn Police Officer Matos located a stolen vehicle traveling west on Route 124 in Short Hills. The vehicle was a stolen 2021 Hyundai Elantra. Officer Matos attempted to stop the vehicle and the vehicle fled. Officer Matos pursued the vehicle, but shortly after had to terminate due to safety concerns. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On June 2, 2023, at 3:30 pm, Millburn Detective Derosa and Detective Rebelo were conducting surveillance in the Locust grove parking lot, off of Glen Avenue in Millburn NJ. The Millburn Detectives observed two males exit a trail from the woods, and then attempt to burglarize a parked Lexus Rx330. At this time the two male actors were detained. Further investigation led to the arrest of Martin Paredes, age 22, of Bronx NY, and Erik Diaz, age 27, of Bronx NY. Both suspects were charged with burglary to a motor vehicle and conspiracy to commit burglary, and were remanded to Essex County Correctional Facility.

On June 4, 2023, at 2:15 pm, Millburn Police Officer O’Neill responded to Macy’s at the Mall at Short Hills for a report of shoplifting. Macy’s associates reported that Ana Goncalvesdasilva, age 35, of Elizabeth concealed $339 of merchandise and attempted to leave the store without paying. She was arrested and charged with shoplifting. She was later released on her own recognizance.

On June 4, 2023, at 4:51 pm, Millburn Police Officer Seebohm responded to Sunglass Hut at the Mall at Short Hills for a report of shoplifting. Sunglass Hut associates reported that a white female wearing an orange sweat suit concealed a pair of Prada sunglasses ($461.69) in her shirt and left the store without paying. Officer Seebohm located the female suspect sitting down at the Cheese Cake Factory, with the stolen Sunglasses on the table. The female suspect Victoria Armenti, age 24, of Staten Island NY was arrested and charged with shoplifting. She was later released on her own recognizance.

On June 5, 2023, at 2:50 am, Millburn Police responded to a Seminole Way residence on a report of a burglary to the residence. The resident reported that at 02:50 am, she heard loud noise coming from outside. The homeowner then reviewed camera footage and saw three black males wearing dark clothing and ski masks walking in the driveway. The three suspects attempted to open the homeowner’s Porsche Panamera parked in driveway. One of the suspects then forced entry to the side door of the residence. As the suspects entered the residence, they were confronted by the Homeowners barking dog which prompted them to run from the residence. The males then fled to an awaiting a white sedan. Millburn Police Officer Recinos located and attempted to pursue the suspect vehicle east on South Orange Ave, but had to terminate due to safety concerns. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On June 5, 2023, Millburn Police Officers Griffin and Kerwien responded to parking lot J at the Mall at Shot Hills on a report of three juvenile male suspects wearing masks that were attempting to break into multiple vehicles. Officer Griffin located the three juvenile males, one age 16, and two age 17 years old, all from Newark. After a thorough investigation all three suspects were taken into custody. Officer Griffin recovered a semi-automatic handgun loaded with hollow point bullets, in the waist band of one of the 17 year olds. The juvenile male was charged with juvenile delinquency (unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of weapon for unlawful purpose, and prohibited weapons hollow point bullets) and was remanded to Essex County Juvenile Detention. The remaining two Juvenile males were charged with juvenile delinquency (hindering apprehension and attempted burglary to a vehicle) and released to family members.

On June 5, 2023, at 8:19 pm, Millburn Police Officer Jezewski responded to Macys at the Mall at Short Hills for a report of theft. Macy’s associates reported a male shoplifted a Ralph Lauren Sweat shirt, total value $138.00. Officer Jezewski conducted an investigation which led to the arrest of Angel Flores, age 19, of Orange NJ. A search incident to arrest yielded evidence of stolen credit card and ID. Flores was charged with shoplifting and theft of lost property, and credit card fraud, later released on his own recognizance.

May 31 through June7 2023 Millburn Police started receiving an influx of reports that Short Hills residents have been receiving fraudulently opened new American Express credit accounts issued to their names. The American Express cards were shipped overnight to their residences. A suspect was then observed taking the packages from the front porch of the residences. The Millburn Detective bureau began an investigation. On June 6 Millburn Detective Derosa arrested Darmaev Munko, age 27, of Los Angeles CA for stealing the packages off Elmwood Place resident porches. He was charged with theft of credit cards, and theft of movable property and released on his own recognizance. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty in a court of law.
