On July 2nd, 2023, at approximately 08:49hrs, the Guttenberg and North Bergen Police Departments were
provided information about a motor vehicle accident at the Bergenline Avenue and 70th Street intersection. Throughout
this investigation, it was uncovered that a male suspect had crashed his vehicle, striking a pedestrian in the process. After
crashing his vehicle, the suspect proceeded to walk away from the vehicle and assaulted another pedestrian nearby.
Following these two incidents, the suspect managed to enter a residence on 70th Street armed with a knife. The residents
of that home encountered the suspect, during which the suspect assaulted one of the residents. The occupants of the home
the suspect entered were all able to escape as Officers of the Guttenberg and North Bergen Police Departments converged
on the home. As Officers arrived, the suspect barricaded himself inside.
Due to the nature and emergent circumstances that unfolded, Operators from the Hudson County Regional SWAT
were requested to assist. After hours of attempted negotiations with the barricaded suspect, Malik Moore, 45, of Orange,
NJ, was successfully taken into custody by Operators of the Hudson County Regional SWAT. After his arrest, Mr. Moore
was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation.
As the result of his arrest, Mr. Moore was charged with the following crimes/offenses: Criminal
Attempt/Robbery(2C:5-1A(1), Aggravated Assault(2C:12-1B(1), Burglary(2C:18-2A(1), Receiving Stolen
Property(2C:20-7A), Endangering an Injured Victim(2C:12-1.2A), Criminal Attempt/Aggravated Assault with a Deadly
Weapon(2C:5-1A(1), two counts of the Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose(2C:39-4D), Aggravated Assault
with a Deadly Weapon(2C:12-1B(2), two counts of Criminal Mischief(2C:17-3A(1), Assault by Auto(2C:12-1C(4),
Hindering(2C:29-3B(2), two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon(2C:39-5D), Obstructing the Administration of
Law(2C:29-1A), Criminal Trespass(2C:18-3B(3), Disorderly Conduct(2C:33-2A(1), and Obstructing Highways and Other
Public Passages(2C:33-7A). Along with the criminal charges filed, Mr. Moore was also issued numerous summonses for
traffic violations, including Driving While Under the Influence of Liquor or Drugs (39:4-50).
At this time, the Guttenberg Police Department is also seeking assistance from members of the public. An
unidentified male was struck by the vehicle Mr. Moore was operating at the start of this incident. This male remains
unidentified and has yet to come forward as the victim of this accident. If anyone has any information pertaining to this
