1. On August 17, 2023, at approximately 5:20 p.m., Police Officers Daniel Grossi
and Rose Kanan responded to Church Square Park, 400 Park Ave., on reports of a
man acting erratically. Police Officer Shelby Seickendick was already on scene
and advised the other officers that the man was shouting in the bathroom. Officers
recognized him as 23-year-old Sebastian Iniguez of Hoboken and knew him to be
the suspect in a theft on August 11, 2023, during which he cut the lock to the front
gate of a home on the 700 block of Park Avenue and stole children's toy cars and a
box of food valuing a total of approximately $260. Officer Jessica Pizanie took that
report, was able to identify the suspect on surveillance video, and issued a warrant
for theft and criminal mischief. Iniguez was also found to have a warrant from
March of 2023 for loitering to obtain CDS. He was brought to Hoboken Police
Headquarters where he was processed and then remanded to the Hudson County
Correctional Facility.
2. On August 20, 2023, at approximately 5:25 a.m., Police Officers Joshua
Campoverde and Nicholas Protopapadakis responded to the intersection of Second
and River Streets, where Sgt. Christopher LaBruno and Police Officer Arron Font
were at a car that was in park, but the driver was sleeping with his foot on the gas
pedal. The driver, later identified as 27-year-old Miguel Almazan of
Bloomingdale, was given a standardized field sobriety test, after which he was
placed under arrest. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless
driving, and improper parking. As per John’s Law, he was released into the
custody of a responsible party.
3. On August 22, 2023, at approximately 11 a.m., Police Officers Joshua
Campoverde and David Chicara responded to the area of Newark and Hudson
Streets on a report of a woman with a knife outside of JP's Bagels, 51 Newark St.
Upon arrival, the officers observed the suspect, later identified as 62-year-old
Theresa Terry of Hoboken, and found a silver butter knife in the pocket of her
backpack. Witnesses told officers that Terry and a man were both panhandling in
the same location and got into a verbal argument when she brandished the knife.
Sgt. Wilfredo Gomez was also on scene and located the victim nearby on
Washington Street. A search incident to arrest of Terry located a clear cylindrical
glass pipe and six hypodermic syringes. Terry was placed under arrest, transported
to police headquarters, and charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful
purposes, aggravated assault, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was found
to have outstanding warrants from the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office and Union
City. Terry was transported to the Huson County Correctional Facility.
4. On August 22, 2023, at approximately 11:16 a.m., Police Officers Frank
Lombardo and Elias Colon responded to the 300 block of Observer Highway,
where Police Officer Marvin DeJesus saw a man who matched the description of a
man wanted in Jersey City. Sgt. Wilfredo Gomez and Police Officer Tyrone
Huggins arrived on scene to assist. The man, identified as 28-year-old William
Vigil of North Bergen, was found to have an outstanding warrant out of Jersey City
and was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, before being brought to
Jersey City Municipal Court.
5. On August 23, 2023, at approximately 12:45 p.m., Lt. David Olivera was
working an outside employment job in the area of Ninth Street and Castle Point
Terrace when he observed a car driving the wrong way down Ninth Street. He
advised the driver, later identified as 54-year-old Robert Spada of Kearny, to pull
over. Spada appeared to have glassy eyes and slurred speech. Police Officer
Christopher Hatfield arrived on scene to conduct a field sobriety test, after which
Spada was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and driving
the wrong way on a one-way street. As per John’s Law, he was later released into
the custody of a responsible party.
6. On August 23, 2023, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Sgt. Wilfredo Gomez, Sgt.
Adam Colon, and Police Officers Joshua Campoverde and David Chicara arrested
18-year-old Reynaldo Peguero of Hoboken at his home for burglary and theft.
Following an investigation, Peguero was found to have stolen a laptop from a car
that was parked in a garage on the 700 block of Jackson Street on August 13,
2023. During the investigation, Detective Bret Globke viewed surveillance video
from the date and location of the theft and identified the actor as Peguero. He was
transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and remanded to the Hudson County
Correctional Facility.
7. On August 24, 2023, at approximately 9:20 a.m., Police Officers Tyrone
Huggins, Cynthia Rivera, and Joshua Campoverde responded to the area of First
and Washington Streets on reports of a man who had assaulted a parking utility
officer. Upon arrival, they observed a man who fit the suspect description who was
highly agitated and yelling. The man, later identified as 39-year-old Lamar
Woodward of Hoboken, continued to yell and shout as officers tried to speak with
him. Sgt. Francis McCourt and Detective Vito Gigante arrived to assist. The victim
confirmed Woodward was in fact the man who he had a confrontation with.
Officer Jason Montalvo took his statement in which he said Woodward yelled at
and attempted to hit him from behind. It was learned that Woodward had two
active warrants out of Hoboken and one from the Hudson County Superior Court.
He was taken to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with disorderly
conduct. While processing Woodward, he became irate and began to yank his arm
which was handcuffed to the bench causing himself to bleed from his wrist. Once
he calmed down, he was taken to Hoboken University Medical Center by the
Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps. He was cleared and then transported to the
Hudson County Correctional Facility.
