On August 22, 2023, at 08:31 am Millburn Police Officer Catinella responded to The Goddard school- 161
Millburn Ave on a report of burglary to a vehicle. The owner of the vehicle reported that while she
brought her child into the school, an unknown actor entered her parked vehicle, a Subaru Forrester, and
stole her handbag. The bag contained her I-phone, Driver’s license and credit cards. While the report
was being taken, the Victim started receiving alerts that her credit card was being used in Union NJ at
the Walmart. The Goddard school surveillance camera captured the suspect vehicle, which was a black
Ford Bronco, with a rear NJ license plate. Detective Royce undertook an investigation which revealed
the suspect vehicle was a rental car with Georgia license plates, the actor stole a license plate off a truck
at 120 Millburn Ave and then affixed it to the rental car in an attempt to mask his identity, to commit
the theft of the handbag. Royce responded to Walmart in Union and got video footage of the actor
attempting to use the Victims credit cards. The investigation led Detective Royce to the Jersey Gardens
Mall, where the suspect vehicle was parked with its original assigned Georgia plates on it. Detective
Royce and Detective Salemi conducted surveillance at Jersey Gardens mall and waited for the suspects
to return to the vehicle. Two male suspects arrived at the vehicle and were detained. The one suspect
Semaj Gilmore, age 24, of Swainsboro Georgia was immediately recognized as the suspect from the
surveillance video. He was placed under arrest and charged with Burglary, theft, credit card fraud and
Forgery. He was lodged in Essex County Jail. Gilmore had multiple warrants and was wanted out of three
states, for similar crimes. The second male was released after a record check. The vehicle was
impounded and a search warrant was secured. The search revealed evidence from three different
Victims of theft from other jurisdictions.
On August 25, 2023, Millburn Police Officer Dundon responded to a Kings Supermarket on a report of
theft that occurred the day before. King’s associates reported that they have video that shows an elderly
male with grey hair and beard select a bottle of Tito’s vodka (valued at $31.99) and consume as he was
walking around the store. He then left the empty bottle on the shelf. King’s associates stated the same
male just left store and was standing in front of Pet Supplies Plus. The Suspect was stopped and
identified. The investigation led to the arrest of John Nonnenmacher, age 59, of Chatham Township. He
was later released with a court date.
On August 26, 2023 at 02:15 am, Millburn Police Officer Lyons located a stolen vehicle traveling east on
Rout 24. The vehicle was a stolen 2023 Lamborghini Hurricane, that had just been stolen out of Hillcrest
Road in Summit. The vehicle was also wanted for a residential burglary. Officer Lyons attempted to stop
the vehicle and the vehicle fled. Officer Lyons pursued the vehicle east on Route 78, but shortly after
had to terminate due to safety concerns. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn
Police Detective Bureau.
On August 26, 2023, at 3:00 pm, Millburn Police Officer Manuyag and Officer Reid responded to
Walgreens on a report of a shoplifting theft that just occurred. Walgreens associates reported that a
male wearing a blue shirt and gold watch had concealed multiple electronic items and left the store
without paying. Officer Manuyag and Reid were able to locate this male matching this description
walking down Route 124 in front of Scotty’s Pub. The investigation led to the arrest of Michael
Berardicelli, age 43, of Irvington NJ. He was charged with shoplifting. He had an active criminal warrant
out of Cedar Grove, who responded and took custody of him.
On August 28, 2023 at 8:10 pm Millburn Police received a report that a stolen vehicle was being tracked
traveling in and around our jurisdiction border for approximately 30 minutes. The vehicle was a 2020
BMW X7 stolen out of Bridgewater NJ at 7:20 pm. Millburn Police Officer Matos and Seebohm patrolled
the border of Millburn and Maplewood where it continued to be tracked. Officer Matos located vehicle
and attempted to stop it. The vehicle eluded police and fled down Valley St. Officer Matos Pursued the
stolen vehicle onto Parker Ave, where the stolen vehicle struck two vehicles at the intersection of Parker
and Prospect, the stolen vehicle then veered off the roadway and struck the front steps and fence of a
Prospect Street residence. The actor then fled-on foot. A witness stated he observed the actor hiding
under a parked vehicle in front of a Summit Ave residence, where Millburn Officers were able to locate
the suspect and place him under arrest. The suspect Jason Cathcart, 20 years old of Kearny NJ was
transported to Millburn Police HQ for Processing. He was charged with eluding, resisting arrest,
receiving stolen property and multiple motor vehicle violations and was released on his own
recognizance. The drivers of the two vehicle that were struck by stolen car both had minor injuries and
refused further medical treatment.
On August 29, 2023 at 09:00 am, Millburn Police Officer Marone responded to Short Hills Garden
Apartments on a report of a theft of a vehicle. The resident reported that sometime overnight, his rental
car, a 2022 KIA Sportage was stolen from the street in front of his apartment. He reported that the
vehicle contained no keys and it was locked at the time it was stolen. This incident is under investigation
by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.
On August 29, 2023 at 08:28 pm, Harrison PD contacted Millburn PD to report that they had a male in
custody with an active Millburn arrest warrant. Officer Nacim responded to Harrison Police Department
to arrest Ishyne Mathis, age 20, out of Newark, on the Milburn warrant, for failure to appear in court,
after being arrested in a stolen car earlier this year. He was brought back to Millburn HQ and processed.
He was then transported to Essex County Jail.
On August 29, 2023 the Millburn Township Police Department arrested two individuals, Alquan Dobbs of
Newark and Shane Anderson of Irvington on August 29, 2023, in connection to the recent mail thefts
that have been affecting the community. Following multiple reports of missing mail, the MPD working
with the postal inspection service set up surveillance at the Short Hills Post Office to monitor the area.
The two suspects were found stealing mail from the post office. Dobbs’ charges are theft of movable
property and conspiracy. Anderson’s charges are theft of movable property, conspiracy, obstruction of
justice, criminal attempt, and resisting arrest. Additionally, Anderson was found to have outstanding
warrants from other jurisdictions. The suspects were transferred to the Essex County Correctional
Facility.
On September 1, 2023 at 10:19 am Officer Reid responded to the Short Hill Post Office on a report of
stolen mail. This comes three days after two arrests were made at same post office. Video footage
revealed that at 03:47 this morning a white sedan is seen pulling in behind the post office and parking. A
male exits the vehicle and canvasses the loading dock, he then renters the vehicle and leaves the area.
At approximately 04:12 3 suspects enter the loading dock of the post office and select multiple trays of
mail before running off, leaving the area. Ten routes of mail were stolen with an estimate of 7,610
pieces of mail. This incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.
On September 2, 2023 at 11:47 am, Millburn Police Officer Dalakian located a stolen vehicle traveling in
Nordstrom’s parking deck at the Short Hills mall. The vehicle was a stolen 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander.
Officer Dalakian attempted to stop the vehicle and the vehicle fled. Officer Dalakian pursued the
vehicle, but shortly after had to terminate due to safety concerns. This incident remains under
investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.
On September 3, 2023 at 3:00 pm, Millburn Police Officer Jezewski stopped to issue a 2017 Audi A4 a
ticket for parking in a fire lane in front of 321 Millburn Ave. A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed
that the owner of the vehicle had an active traffic warrant out of Newark. The investigation led to the
arrest of Viergela Louidor, age 32, of Linden, NJ for an open warrant out of Newark. She was transported
to Millburn Police HQ and later released on her own recognizance, by Newark PD.
On September 4, 2023, at 12:10 am Millburn Police Officer Lyons observed a grey KIA Sportage travelling
at a high rate of speed on north on White Oak Ridge Rd. The occupants of the vehicle all had masks on.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect vehicle accelerated and eluded the Officer. It
was later learned that this vehicle was stolen out of New York City. This incident remains under
investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau
On September 5, 2023, at 11:49 pm Millburn Police Officer Recinos responded to a Briarwood Road
residence on a report of a burglary to the residence. The resident reported that his residence was
ransacked and $2,000 cash was taken. There was no forced entry, and possible entry was gained
through an unlocked side door. This occurred side time within the past three weeks, while the
homeowner was away on vacation. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police
Detective Bureau.
On September 6, 2023, at 1:41 pm, Millburn Police Officer Ford and Detective Royce responded to
Walgreens on a report of a shoplifting theft that just occurred. Walgreens associates reported that a
white male approximately 40 years old wearing a grey shirt and carrying a book bag concealed a large
amount of energy drinks, and left the store without paying. Officer Ford and Detective Royce were able
to locate this male matching this description walking down Millburn Ave. They stopped and detained
him. A moment later the subject fled on foot, ignoring all commands by the police to stop. Detective
Royce had to tackle the suspect to the ground on Farley Pl. The suspect continued to resist arrest while
on the ground. Other officers were able to assist and handcuff him. This event led to the arrest of Joseph
Fredericks, age 37 of Newark NJ. Search incident to the arrest revealed 28 Monster energy drinks and a
crack pipe. He was charged with shoplifting, resisting arrest, obstruction and drug paraphernalia. He
had an active criminal warrant out of Red Bank NJ, who responded and took custody of him.
On September 6, 2023 Millburn Police Officer O’Neil responded to a Birchwood drive residence on a
report of a dispute between a JCP&L employee and a homeowner. The power company employee
stated that the residence did not have power, and that there was a problem with the home’s transfer
switch. He advised the homeowner he needed to get an electrician to have the issued fixed, and it was
not JCP&L responsibility. At this time, the homeowner became irate with him and started screaming at
him and retrieved a baseball bat and came at the JCP&L employee with it. The employee retreated to his
truck and was afraid that the homeowner was going to him with the bat. He stated the homeowner then
spit on his face. This investigation led to the arrest of the homeowner Jason Cole age 49. He was charged
with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and Aggravated assault, and was released on his
own recognizance.
On September 6, 2023 at 5:44 pm Millburn Police Officer Seebohm responded to Nordstrom on a report
of two Juvenile males in custody for shoplifting. Nordstrom associate stated that the two juveniles each
stole a All saints hooded sweatshirts valued at $219.00 apiece. The two juvenile males from Brooklyn
were brought into custody. The two Juvenile males were charged with juvenile delinquency (shoplifting)
and released to family members.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or
are found guilty in a court of law.
