1. On August 31, 2023, at approximately 4:35 p.m., Police Officer Christopher
Barral responded to Shoprite, 900 Madison St., for reports of a shoplifting. Upon
arrival, it was learned that store security had stopped a woman, later identified as
28-year-old Alexandra Zalewski of Hoboken, as she tried to leave the store without
paying for multiple items she had placed in her bags. She was arrested, transported
to Hoboken Police Headquarters, charged with shoplifting, and released with a
court date.
2. On September 1, 2023, at approximately 6 p.m., Police Officer Brandon
Fitzgibbons responded to the 300 block of Bloomfield Street, on reports of a man
with a knife. Lt. Jonathan Butler, Sgt. Francis McCourt, and Police Officer Ramon
Estrella were also on scene. The investigation revealed that 29-year-old Troy
Timberlake of Hoboken, followed two men who were speaking Italian as they
walked on Third Street from Garden Street. As he followed them, Timberlake
yelled profanities, threats, and racial slurs and brandished a knife in their direction.
The victims walked quickly into Cork City Pub, 239 Bloomfield St., for safety and
used a chair to block Timberlake from coming in. Timberlake remained in the
outdoor patio area, holding the blade in his hand, still extended toward the victims.
Timberlake was placed under arrest. A search located a folding knife that measured
approximately 3.5 inches long when fully extended. He was charged with bias
intimidation, making terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon, and
possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. He was transported to Hoboken
Police Headquarters, processed, and transported to the Hudson County
Correctional Facility.
3. On September 2, 2023, at approximately 2:25 a.m., Police Officers Jesse
Castellano and Anthony Olivera were patrolling the area of River and First Streets
when they observed a car driving erratically with no headlights on. The officers
conducted a motor vehicle stop and approached the driver, later identified as 24-
year-old Nicole Tejada of Haledon. She was hesitant to provide documents and
only provided her information after being asked four times. Police Officer Daniel
Grossi arrived on scene to conduct a standardized field sobriety test, after which
Tejada was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Tejada was
transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with driving while
intoxicated, reckless driving, and driving without headlights. She was processed
and as per John’s Law, released into the custody of a responsible party.
4. On September 2, 2023, at approximately 3:23 p.m., Police Officer Anthony
Rutkowski was patrolling near the area of Third and Washington Streets when he
observed a group of individuals in a verbal argument. As he exited his vehicle and
got closer, Officer Rutkowski saw several people holding back a man who was
yelling obscenities and had his hands clenched into fists. As the Officer
approached, the group dispersed. The investigation revealed that the man, later
identified as 21-year-old Alexsandro Velez Munoz of Dumont, engaged in a verbal
dispute with two men walking by and as the dispute escalated, Munoz aggressively
pushed one of the other men, causing him to fall backwards. Police Officer Keven
Delacruz arrived on scene and assisted with handcuffing Munoz, who continued to
yell. Police Officers Remy Garcia Marte and Teddy Santiago, and two New Jersey
Transit Police Officers arrived to assist, as a crowd was forming. Munoz was
transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with simple assault and
disorderly conduct. He was released on a summons.
5. On September 4, 2023, at approximately 5:25 p.m., Police Officer Joseph Lupo
responded to the 1300 block of Bloomfield Street on reports of a blocked
driveway. A resident pointed out the car blocking the driveway, and said she
believed the driver to be intoxicated. The officer observed the woman, later
identified as 29-year-old Brittany Liva of Saddle River, to have slurred speech and
was unbalanced while standing. Sgt. Roary Miller and Police Officers Bianca
Arroyo, Marc Lombardi, and Damien Bates arrived on the scene. Liva, who
refused a standardized field sobriety test, was charged with driving while
intoxicated and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where she further
refused to participate in the DWI testing process. She was issued summonses for
driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit a chemical breath test, chemical breath
test refusal, reckless driving, and blocking a driveway. As per John’s Law, she was
released into the custody of a responsible party.
6. On September 5, 2023, at approximately 10:15 a.m., Police Officer Geovanni
Cruzado responded to Hoboken Police Headquarters to process 77-year-old Miguel
Flores of Hoboken, who turned himself in on a summons issued on August 21,
2023. On that date Police Officers Frank Lombardo, Roberto Cuevas, and Enrico
Gnassi responded to the 500 block of Madison Street on reports of an altercation
between two residents, possibly involving a knife. An investigation revealed Flores
cursed at and became aggressive toward another man, pointed a knife about 4-
inches long at him, and threatened to injure him. Flores, who was not on the scene
when officers arrived, was issued a summons by mail with a court date on charges
of aggravated assault, making terrorist threats, possession of a weapon for unlawful
purposes, and unlawful possession of a weapon. On September 5, Flores responded
to police headquarters where he was formally processed and released with a new
court date.
7. On September 6, 2023, Police Officer Ramon Estrella and Mark Mooreman
processed and then transported 57-year-old Joseph Crandell of Hoboken to the
Hudson County Correctional Facility following an appearance by Crandell in
Hoboken Municipal Court on a complaint summons for harassment stemming from
an incident on November 21, 2022. On that date, a woman reported Crandell
yelled at her and threatened to kill her.
