East Orange Welcomes Students Back to School

Posted Wed, Sep 6, 2023, From City of East Orange
East Orange, NJ, September 6, 2023: Mayor Ted R. Green and the East Orange City Council, in conjunction with the East Orange School District, will participate in the “Back-to-School Welcome Walk,” an annual multi-day campaign at local elementary, middle, and high schools to welcome returning students to the 2023-2024 School Year. Residents who are able are encouraged to stop by their neighborhood school and extend best wishes for a successful school year.

Mayor Green said the first day of school is always an exciting time in the city as thousands of East Orange children prepare for a new year of academic, social and emotional growth.

“We’ve had a very busy summer keeping our young people active and engaged, and now we are looking forward to the new learning experiences that this school year will bring,” said Mayor Green. “We are lockstep with our school administrators, parents, teachers, coaches and mentors in providing our young people with both the tools and the support they need to excel in and outside of the classroom. I want to encourage parents and guardians to join and support the Parent-Teacher Organization at your child’s school. Parental involvement is directly tied to student performance and engaged parents become advocates and a valuable resource for their child’s needs. Let’s continue to make learning a priority in your home and work together to raise our village.”

Council Chairman Christopher Awe said the importance of “starting on the right foot” should never be understated.

“As our scholars begin this 2023-2024 school year, we come together as ‘One City,’ showering them with all of our support, praise, encouragement and prayers for them to put their "best foot forward," said Councilman Awe. “The East Orange City Council wishes our bright scholars, their parents, all educators, and every and anyone that touches our children the best school year ever! Make us proud!”

Mayor Green also reminds motorists to follow the rules of the road, always making sure to drive the speed limit and to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.

“Our Department of Public Safety has assigned crossing guards and EOPD officers to school corridors and busy intersections to ensure students are safe traveling to and from school,” said Mayor Green. “Whether our children are traveling by foot, vehicle, bike or bus, we must make sure their safety is our top priority.”
