Thanks to funding obtained by Senator Holly Schepisi, Stevens Institute of Technology is going to be conducting a study of the Woodcliff Lake Reservoir to assess the feasibility of incorporating forecast-informed management techniques to help mitigate flooding.
Over the course of 12 months, Stevens’ personnel will be gathering past weather predictions and data; building models and simulations of the reservoir and watershed; and then testing various scenarios. The goal is to determine whether utilizing weather forecasts can optimize water storage and management while incorporating operational practices that could reduce flooding in our area.
Your photos of past flood events in Westwood are needed. Comparing weather data to photos of actual conditions will bring a higher level of accuracy and reliability to the study. Photos and/or videos must include an exact date (as opposed to “sometime during Ida”), and a time of day or time range. Please send your material to the Borough Clerk.
