Millburn Police Press Release October 19 2023

On October 2, 2023 at 1200 pm Officer Marone responded to Shoprite on a report of a theft that just occurred. The loss prevention officer stated that the previous day an actor entered the store, described as a husky black male in his thirties, and stole 63 packs of allergy medicine and left the store without paying. He left the parking lot in a white tesla with a Tennessee license plate. Millburn Detective Wichelns began to investigate this incident. On October 12, 2023 the investigation led to him charging Darius Charles, age 27, of Newark with shoplifting.

On October 11 2023, at 1:09 am, Millburn Police responded to an East Hartshorn residence on a report of motor vehicle burglary. The homeowner reported that he reviewed ring camera footage and saw a small white SUV pull into his driveway. The actor exits the suspect vehicle and enters the homeowners unlocked 2022 Audi Q3 for approximately one minute. The actor exits vehicle and leaves area. Nothing appeared to be missing. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On October 11, 2023, Millburn Police Officer Kerwien responded to a Hartshorn Drive residence on a report of a burglary to the residence. The resident reported that they recently began demolition operation at this residence and has hire a contractor to begin the demolition. The homeowner stated over the past few weeks, several items have been stolen from the inside of the house including a hot water heater, furnace, 2 vanities, and pavers. The contractor they hired did not take these items. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On October 12, 2023, Millburn Police Officers Herrera and Dalakian responded to The Mall at Short Hills on a report of a theft that just occurred at Burberry. The suspect stole a $4,099 dollar Burberry jacket and walked out of the store wearing it, without paying for it. The suspect left Burberry and was now at the Canada Goose store. Millburn Officers arrived at Canada Goose as the suspect was walking out of the store with a $1,575.00 jacket in his hands, that he did not pay for. The suspect immediately shoved Officer Herrera, and attempted to punch the officers in the face. At this time, the suspect was restrained and taken the ground and handcuffed. Richard Boursiquot age 38 of Union NJ was placed under arrest. He was searched incident to arrest which yielded a folding knife, which he was seen earlier walking around the mall with it in his hand. Further investigation revealed that he also stole items from Louis Vuitton, Neiman Marcus, Prada, and Robert Graham. Total amount of merchandise that was stolen was $9658.00. He was charged with Robbery, aggravated assault on an officer, resisting arrest, shoplifting, and criminal mischief and remanded in the Essex County correctional facility.

On October 15, at 9:13 pm Officer Goldfarb responded to Edison PD on a report of an adult female in custody on a Millburn arrest warrant. Officer Goldfarb arrived and arrested Brianna Philmore age 23 of Newark for failure to appear in court for charges in early of 2022. She was placed under arrest and transported to Essex County correctional facility.

On October 16, 2023 at 10:40 am, Millburn Police Officer Catinella responded to a Myrtle Ave residence on a report of attempted burglary to a motor vehicle. The reporting person stated that he observed from his second-floor window, a silver Toyota corolla pull up and the passenger attempt to enter his parked 2017 Porsche Macan and his 2017 black Lexus. Both vehicles were locked so the actor was unsuccessful. The actor then fled in the suspect vehicle. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On October 16 ,2023 10:55 am Millburn Police Officer Ford stopped a 2013 grey Hyundai Elantra on Millburn Ave for motor vehicle violations. The investigation led to the arrest of Timiyah Gardner age 24, of Springfield, for open warrant out of East Orange NJ, for terroristic threats. Gardner was issued summonses and later transported to East Orange Police department, who took custody of her on their arrest warrant.

On October 16, 2023 at 02:16 pm, Officer Catinella responded to White Oak Ridge Rd residence on a report of theft of construction tools. The contractor stated sometime over this past weekend an unknown actor stole 3 of his saws, with a total value of $1,000.00. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On October 18, 2023, at 01:45 pm Detective Sergeant Royce observed a suspicious male operating a bicycle on Millburn Ave peering at houses. Detective Sergeant Royce and Detective Wichelns and Herrera began surveillance of this subject from their unmarked police vehicles. The suspect was then observed getting off his bicycle and walking up to a Blaine Street residence. He then Selected a UPS package from the porch and concealed it under his jacket and walked back to his bike. At this time, the suspect was detained. Further investigation led to the arrest of Matthew Williams, age 32, of Elizabeth NJ. Search incident to arrest yielded a Humira Pen, which was prescribed to a Main Street resident in town. The owner of this prescription confirmed it was stolen out of the inside of their apartment building. Williams was charged with Burglary, 2 counts of theft and possession of burglary tools. He was released on his own recognizance. His current bicycle was seized for further investigation.

Several minutes after Williams was released from Millburn Police custody, he was seen by Officer Dundon operating a different bicycle west on Millburn Ave. The subject was detained again. The bicycle was taking for safekeeping. He was released at scene. A little while later, a child dialed 911 stating his bicycle was stolen from his Millburn Ave residence. This matched the description of the bicycle the suspect was riding. The suspect was located again in Taylor Park and placed under arrest again for possessing the stolen bicycle. He was charged with theft of movable property and remanded to the Essex County correctional facility.
