On November 23, 2023, at approximately 2:40 a.m., Police Officer Nicholas
Protopapadakis observed a large crowd forming in the middle of the street and
about 20-30 individuals fighting near the intersection of Hudson and Newark
Streets. While attempting to separate two large parties the officer observed a man,
later identified as 23-year-old Malik Khalil of Brooklyn, acting aggressively
toward a group of people in a sprinter van, trying to persuade them to fight him.
The crowd continued to grow and form around other officers who arrived on the
scene. It was at that time Officer Protopapadakis arrested Khalil. Another
individual, later identified as 24-year-old Peter Pisciotta of Brooklyn, began
banging his fists on the same sprinter van and screamed obscenities at the people
inside. He was moved away from the area and was advised that if he came back to
the location he would be arrested. A few minutes later, Pisciotta was back on the
scene, screaming and taunting the individuals in the van again. Officers arrested
him. It was discovered that Khalil had a warrant for a traffic violation from
Rumson. Both men were transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where they
were charged with disorderly conduct and released with a summons. Sgt. James
Barbro and Police Officers Enrico Gnassi, Aaron Font, Shelby Seickendick,
Cynthia Rivera, and Remy Garcia-Marte also assisted in this case. Due to the
number of people at the incident, NJ Transit Police provided mutual aid.
On November 24, 2023, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Police Officers Anthony
Azzoline and Harry Montalvo were conducting a building check on the 300 block
of Marshall Drive when they observed two people, later identified as 28-year-old
Sarah Elabbasy of Jersey City and 39-year-old Daniel Brinkerhoff of North
Bergen, sleeping on the top floor of a staircase. The officers observed several
empty wax folds and a syringe nearby and noticed Brinkerhoff’s speech to be
impaired due to an object inside his mouth, which turned out to be a plastic syringe
cap. Both were placed under arrest for defiant trespassing. A search incident to
arrest of Brinkerhoff found him to be in possession of a capped syringe, a broken
glass cylindrical tube, prescription medication which he did not have a prescription
for, and a wax fold containing possible CDS. He was additionally charged with
possession of CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia. A search incident to
arrest of Elabbasy found her to be in possession of six wax folds, three capped
syringes, two blades, four push rods, a sandwich bag with more empty wax folds, a
metal cap, and steel wool, all items consistent with CDS use. She was additionally
charged with possession of CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia. It was
discovered she had an outstanding warrant from Jersey City. Brinkerhoff was
found to have a warrant out of North Bergen, one from Jersey City, and three in
Hoboken for possession of CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia, and for
obstruction. Brinkerhoff and Elabbasy were transported to the Hudson County
Correctional Facility.
On November 25, 2023, at approximately 2 p.m., Police Officers David Chicara
and Cynthia Rivera responded to the 300 block of Bloomfield Street on reports of a
man taking a package from a front staircase. Officers were given a description and
photo of the suspect. Sgt. Adam Colon and Lt. David Olivera joined the search for
the suspect, who was located about a half an hour later by Sgt. Colon in the area of
Third and Jackson Streets. He was identified as 37-year-old Eugene Ortiz of
Manhattan and was arrested for theft. Officers searched his bag and found multiple
items with tags still on that did not belong to him. He was transported to Hoboken
Police Headquarters where it was discovered he had multiple warrants out of
Hoboken, Jersey City, and Guttenberg, for a variety of charges including theft,
shoplifting, and making terroristic threats. He was transported to the Hudson
County Correctional Facility.
On November 26, 2023, at approximately 1:35 p.m., Sgt. Wilfredo Gomez and
Sgt. Adam Colon observed 58-year-old William Johnson of Hoboken on the 400
block of Newark Street. They knew that Johnson had several outstanding warrants,
including one for burglary, evidence tampering, theft, and criminal mischief at
Napoli’s Pizza, 1118 Washington St., a day prior which was investigated by Police
Officer Harry Montalvo. Sgt. Gomez and Sgt. Colon followed Johnson to the 300
block of Newark Street and called for him to stop, but he refused and ran into a
building. When they caught up to him, Johnson attempted to pull away during
arrest. Police Officers David Chicara, Michael Aviles, Nathaniel Arocho, and
Anthony Ingraffia arrived to assist. Johnson was transported to Hoboken Police
Headquarters for processing. He was found to have additional warrants out of
Hoboken. He was further charged with resisting arrest and aggravated assault on a
law enforcement officer and was transported to the Hudson County Correctional
Facility.
On November 27, 2023, at approximately 8:45 p.m., Police Officers Keven De La
Cruz and Christopher Barral responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of
a shoplifting. Store security was holding19-year-old Asia Worthington of West
New York, who was observed placing items into a shopping cart and attempting to
leave without paying. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where
Worthington was charged with shoplifting and released on a summons.
On November 29, 2023, at approximately 2:25 p.m., Sgt. Roary Miller and Police
Officers Nathaniel Arocho, and Roberto Cuevas responded to ShopRite, 900
Madison St., on reports of a shoplifting. Store security was holding the actor, later
identified as 47-year-old Jack Corleone of Union City, who was observed putting
several items worth a total of approximately $88.45 into a shopping cart and
walking toward the exit without paying. Security stopped him at the door and
called the police. Corleone was arrested for shoplifting and transported to Hoboken
Police Headquarters. He was processed and released on a summons.
