On November 16, 2023, at approximately 4:50 p.m., Police Officers Shelby
Seickendick and David Chicara responded to Shoprite, 900 Madison St., on reports
of a shoplifting, where the actor had left the scene. Upon arrival, officers were
shown surveillance video of a man putting two pairs of headphones, worth a total
of $53.29, into a bag and walking out without paying. The manager was able to
retrieve the items before the actor left, but as he did so, the man pushed him and
threatened to come back and kill him. Officers recognized the actor as 57-year-old
Angelo Gomez of Hoboken from previous encounters and located him on the 900
block of Monroe Street. Gomez was placed under arrest for robbery, and
transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where it was discovered that Gomez
was wanted for a warrant out of Hoboken for possession of burglary tools and drug
paraphernalia. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
On November 17, 2023, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Police Officer Joseph Cahill
was approached by a manager at CVS, 59 Washington St., who told him a man had
just left the store with two packages of Cup of Noodles Stir Fry, valued at $4.38,
without paying. Sgt. Christopher LaBruno observed a man matching the
description given to Officer Cahill near the intersection of Second and Washington
Streets. The man, later identified as 32-year-old Rodney Hamilton of Newark, was
stopped, placed under arrest for shoplifting, and transported to Hoboken Police
Headquarters. Police Officers Joshua Campoverde, Harry Montalvo, and Anthony
Ingraffia also assisted in this arrest. Hamilton was processed and released on a
summons.
On November 17, 2023, at approximately 10 a.m., Police Officers Jessica Arebalo
and Roberto Cuevas responded to the area of Observer Highway and Washington
Street on reports of a shoplifting at CVS, 59 Washington St. Police Officer Joseph
Cahill was flagged down by a store manager who observed a man place several
unopened boxes into a shopping cart and leave the store without paying. Officer
Cahill quickly located a man who fit the description given to him by the store
manager. The man, later identified as 46-year-old Michael Fortune of Hoboken,
was found to have multiple sealed packages of soap and laundry detergent totaling
approximately $257.50. He was placed under arrest and transported to Hoboken
Police Headquarters by Officers Frank Francolino and Arebalo where he refused to
be fingerprinted and photographed. Fortune was charged with shoplifting and
failure to submit fingerprints and transported to the Hudson County Correctional
Facility.
On November 19, 2023, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Police Officers Anthony
Rutkowski and Daniela Simone observed a vehicle with the engine on and parked
on the 300 block of 13th Street. Officers approached the car and observed a man,
later identified as 37-year-old Hector Caraballo of Bayonne, in the driver's seat
with his eyes closed and saliva coming out of his mouth. When they were unable to
wake Caraballo up, officers opened the door to check on him, and observed a mini
vodka bottle in his hand. When Caraballo did wake up, officers noticed a strong
odor of alcoholic beverages emanating from his breath. He could not find his
driver's license when first asked for it. A series of standardized field sobriety tests
were conducted, after which Caraballo was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Police Officers Kyle Seper and Andrias Bonilla arrived and during a search of the
vehicle for intoxicants, an empty medium sized bottle of vodka was located.
Caraballo was transported to the Hoboken Police Department and further charged
with having an open container in a vehicle. As per John’s Law he was released into
the custody of a responsible party.
On November 19, 2023, at approximately 6:10 a.m., Police Officers Jessica
Pizanie and Jason Montalvo responded to a Marineview Plaza building on reports
of a man opening packages in the lobby. The original caller followed the actor,
later identified as 65-year-old James Cody of Hoboken, and pointed him out to
officers upon their arrival. James was placed under arrest for theft. A search found
him in possession of two unopened packages that did not belong to him. An on-site
investigation found he had opened approximately three additional packages inside
the building. Cody was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, processed,
and released on a summons with a court date.
On November 20, 2023, at approximately 4:40 pm., Police Officers Daniel Grossi
and Daniel Barron were on the 300 block of Madison Street when they saw a man
they knew to be 49-year-old Kenneth Maccagnano of Hoboken who had an active
warrant for his arrest. As they exited their vehicle to arrest Maccagnano, he ran
away and dropped a green bag on the street. Police Officer Ramon Estrella
observed Maccagnano running on the 300 block of Marhsall Drive, exited his
patrol car, caught up to Maccagnano, and arrested him. A search incident to arrest
found him to be in possession of a glass cylindrical pipe containing brown residue,
suspected to be CDS crack-cocaine, a metal pushrod, and a roll of copper mesh.
The green bag was found to have items belonging to other people. Police Officers
Nicholas Losurdo and Barron transported Maccagnano to Hoboken Police
Headquarters. It was discovered he had a warrant out of Hoboken for theft and
possession. He was further charged with obstruction of the administration of law
by flight and possession of drug paraphernalia and was transported to the Hudson
County Correctional Facility.
On November 21, 2023, at approximately 1:05 a.m. Police Officer Anthony
Rutkowski responded to the area of Observer Highway and Bloomfield Street on
reports of a vehicle that had been stopped in the roadway for up to 15 minutes.
Officer Rutkowski approached the vehicle and observed a woman sleeping in the
driver's seat. When he knocked, the driver later identified as 44-year-old Jo-Ann
Conzone of West Islip, NY, woke up and lowered the driver's window. A series of
field sobriety tests were conducted, after which Conzone was arrested for driving
while intoxicated. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and further
issued a summons for reckless driving. As per John’s Law, she was released into
the custody of a responsible party.
On November 22, 2023, at approximately 11:10 p.m., Police Officers Shelby
Seickendick and Paul Quinn responded to the area of Harrison and Second streets
on reports of a possible drunk driver. Upon arrival they observed a vehicle that
matched the caller’s description on the 100 block of Harrison Street and saw the
driver, later identified as 54-year-old Michael Gonzalez of Pottstown, PA,
unresponsive in the driver's seat with his foot on the break, and the car still in
drive. Officers put the car in park and removed the keys from the ignition.
Gonzalez eventually woke up and officers saw an open container of an alcoholic
beverage on the floor of the back seat. Gonzalez was taken to Hoboken University
Medical Center for treatment where a blood test was taken, and he was charged
with driving while intoxicated. Sgt. Luke Zeszotarski found an open warrant for
Gonzalez out of Jersey City. He was given a summons for driving while
intoxicated, reckless driving, and having an open alcoholic beverage in a motor
vehicle.
