Chatham Township Man Sentenced for Stabbing Incident

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Chatham Township Police Chief Thomas Miller announce that Brian Kozub, 39, of Chatham Township has been sentenced in connection with a stabbing that occurred in Chatham Township on July 4, 2023.

On October 24, 2023, the Honorable Stephen J. Taylor, P.J.Cr. imposed a sentence of five years in New Jersey State Prison subject to 85% parole ineligibility pursuant to the No Early Release Act. Kozub was also ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Kozub had previously entered a guilty plea to second degree Aggravated Assault before Judge Taylor on September 19, 2023.

The conviction arises from an incident that occurred on July 4, 2023, in Chatham Township. At 10:50 p.m., the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office was notified of an alleged stabbing that transpired at a residence on Buxton Road. Kozub was charged with stabbing the 51-year-old male victim in the neck with a pocketknife, and subsequently arrested. The defendant and victim were reportedly celebrating the Fourth of July. The victim sustained serious bodily injury as a result of the stabbing.

Kozub has been detained at the Morris County Correctional Facility since his apprehension.

Numerous law enforcement agencies contributed to the successful prosecution, including members of the Chatham Township Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.
