Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of BERNARDO VELAZCO (DOB: 11/08/1971; single; unemployed) of Cliffside Park, NJ on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault by sexual contact, and endangering the welfare of a child. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Fairview Police Department under the direction of Chief Vincent Bellucci.
On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, the Fairview Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Fairview Police Department revealed that BERNARDO VELAZCO sexually assaulted a child under the age of 13 in Fairview, NJ while in a supervisory role.
As a result of the investigation, on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, BERNARDO VELAZCO was charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(1); second-degree sexual assault by sexual contact, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2b; second-degree attempt to commit aggravated sexual assault, N.J.S.A 2C:5-2/2C:14-2a(1); and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1). VELAZCO is considered a fugitive from justice.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Fairview Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
