Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer-In-Charge Isa Abbassi announce that at approximately 6:07 p.m. on May 22, 2023, Paterson Police
responded to the area of West Broadway and Matlock Street in Paterson, New Jersey on a report
of shots fired. Paterson Police located a potential crime scene as well as a 37-year-old female
Paterson, New Jersey resident suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound. Aid was immediately
rendered, and she was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New
Jersey for treatment. A short while later, a 35-year-old male East Orange, New Jersey resident
arrived at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey via private vehicle
seeking treatment for a non-fatal gunshot wound.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. More information will be released once it
becomes available.
