Passaic County Prosecutor's Office Announces New Online Subsite For Crime Victims & Survivors

Posted Wed, Apr 19, 2023, From Passaic County Prosecutor's Office
Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces that the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office (PCPO) is now LIVE with a new online subsite to the existing PCPO website (www.pcponj.org). PCPO is commemorating National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW), April 23 – 29, 2023, by adding this new resource to help crime survivors and their families access information about victims’ rights, supportive services, and the criminal justice process. This year’s NCVRW theme is, “Survivor Voices: Elevate. Engage. Effect Change.” PCPO continues our commitment to support crime survivors and their families in our communities.

The subsite, accessible through the home page of the PCPO Website, highlights the mission of the PCPO’s Office of Victim Witness Advocacy while explaining the services available for crime victims as they navigate through the criminal justice process. The Office of Victim Witness Advocacy (OVWA) is tasked with providing advocacy, support, and referrals to crime victims and their families from inception of the case through its disposition.

The OVWA subsite is designed to be a user-friendly platform where crime victims, survivors, advocates, members of the Passaic County community and all interested readers can find information about the criminal justice system, crime victims’ rights, and available resources. In addition to resources available to all crime victims, there are designated sections for information and resources specific to crimes involving fatalities, domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and financial crimes. Segments of the PCPO video, Victims’ Voices, in English, Spanish, and Arabic are available and help illustrate the criminal justice process once a crime has been committed. To better serve Passaic County’s wonderfully diverse community, and all site visitors, the OVWA subsite can be translated into various languages through its multi-language translator feature.

The OVWA Subsite also contains helpful links where readers can obtain additional information and support from companion service agencies. To access the new subsite, users can click on the Victim Witness Services Site link located in the top navigation bar of the PCPO website homepage.

For more information about the VWU Subsite, please email Victim Witness Coordinator Joan Nixon at Jnixon@passaiccountynj.org. The creation of the Subsite has been fully financed through federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant funding.
