Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Hawthorne Police Chief James W. Knepper
announce that on March 2, 2023, at approximately 6:20 a.m., an off-duty New York City
Hospital Police Officer was shot in the area of Brownstone Terrace in Hawthorne, New Jersey.
The victim sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound on his leg and was transported to Saint Joseph’s
University Medical Center for treatment.
This investigation is active and ongoing. More information will be released when it becomes
available.
