Englewood, NJ Man Charged With Sexual Assault, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Criminal Sexual Contact

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of STEVEN SPENCE (DOB: 12/27/1971; single; security guard) of Englewood, NJ on charges of sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal sexual contact. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Englewood Police Department under the direction of Chief Thomas Greeley.

On Friday, December 29, 2023, the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile. An investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Englewood Police Department revealed that STEVEN SPENCE had sexually assaulted the child in Englewood, NJ.

As a result of the investigation, STEVEN SPENCE was arrested in Paramus, NJ and charged with second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2b; third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1); and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3b. SPENCE was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Englewood Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
