Millburn Police Press Release December 27 2023 (Update)

Case update December 27, 2023

On December 14, 2023, Millburn Police Officer Lyons and Officer Manuyag responded to CVS on a report of theft that just occurred. CVS associates reported that a female suspect left the store without paying for $405.00 worth of merchandise. Officer Manuyag located the female suspect walking on Millburn Ave by Wyoming. The suspect Marcia Sumpter, age 50, of East Orange was placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting, resisting arrest and possession of CDS. She had an active warrant out of Union County.

On December 15, 2023, Millburn Police Officer Ryan Dundon responded to Macy’s at the Mall at Short Hills for a report of theft. Macy’s associates reported that Iulia Fileeva, age 37, of Manhattan NY, concealed $272.00 of merchandise and left the store without paying. The suspect was placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting.

On December 16, 2023, Millburn Police Officer Ryan Griffin responded to Macy’s at the Mall at Short Hills for a report of theft. Macy’s associates reported that Cristian Ramirez, age 25, of Summit NJ, concealed $217.00 of merchandise and left the store without paying. The suspect was placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting.

On December 23, 2023, Millburn Police Officers responded to Neiman Marcus at the Mall at Short Hills for a report of theft. Neiman Marcus Loss Prevention reported that Jason Josaphat, age 33, of Montclair, concealed $820.00 of merchandise and left the store without paying. Officers were able to bring him into custody. He was charged with shoplifting and resisting arrest.

On December 23, 2023, Millburn Police Officer Genitempo and Officer Reid responded to a Silver Spring Road residence on a report of a burglary to the residence. The Homeowner reported that there were two suspects in his residence. The investigation revealed that the unknown actors forced entry into the home. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On December 23, 2023, Millburn Police Officer Kyle Jezewski responded to Macy’s at the Mall at Short Hills for a report of theft. Macy’s associates reported that Rachel Bravo, age 47, of Bayonne, concealed $1168.00 of merchandise and left the store without paying. The suspect was placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting.

On December 24, 2023, Millburn Police Officer Dundon and Officer Griffin responded to Macy’s at the Mall at Short Hills on a report of two adult males in custody for shoplifting. Macy’s loss prevention reported that Ibn Thomas, age 30, of Newark, concealed $207.00 of merchandise and left the store without paying, and Andy Simmonds, age 29, of Hillside concealed 401.00 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying. Both were arrested and charged with shoplifting.

On December 25, 2023 Millburn Officer Dundon responded to a Pine Terrace East residence on an activated burglary alarm. While Officers were conducting a check of the residence, it was revealed that someone had forced entry into the residence. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On December 26, 2023 a Millburn police detective observed a male suspect opening the Short Hills Post Office Mail drop box and stealing mail out of the box. Millburn Officers were able to stop and detain the suspect. The investigation led to the arrest of Angel Barrientos, age 33, of Woodland Pk NJ. Multiple pieces of stolen mail were recovered along with a stolen USPS mailbox key. He was charged with theft of movable property, possession of burglary tools, receiving stolen property, and tampering with public records.

On December 27, 2023, Millburn Police Officer Kostovski responded to an Alan Drive residence on a report of a burglary to the residence. The homeowner reported seeing two males exiting his house. The investigation revealed that the two actors gained entry into the home through an unlocked door. There was nothing missing at this time. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.


These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty in a court of law.
