Dumont, NJ Man Charged With Production and Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced additional charges in an ongoing sexual assault investigation in Dumont, NJ. The investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Dumont Police Department under the direction of Chief Brian Joyce.

As previously reported, on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, the Dumont Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a child. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Dumont Police Department revealed that COSWAYNE R. DONALD sexually assaulted a child who was between the ages of 13 and 16 in Dumont, NJ. COSWAYNE DONALD was arrested in Dumont, NJ on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 and charged with three counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(1); second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1); and third-degree sexual contact, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3a. DONALD was initially remanded to the Bergen County Jail before being placed on home detention pending trial.

On Friday, January 5, 2024, further investigation revealed that COSWAYNE DONALD used his cellular phone to manufacture and possess items depicting nude and/or sexually explicit pubescent children. As a result, DONALD was additionally charged with first-degree production of child pornography, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4b(3); second-degree production of child pornography, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4b(4); and third-degree possession of child pornography, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4b(5)(b)(iii). DONALD was placed under arrest at a residence in Dumont, NJ and remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would like to thank the Dumont Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
