Posted Wed, Feb 21, 2024, From Bergen County Prosecutor's Office
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of KALVIN LOPEZ (DOB: 02/24/1989; single; unemployed) of 300 Riverfront Boulevard, Unit 1313, Elmwood Park, NJ on charges of trafficking in personal identifying information and manufacturing fraudulent government documents. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Acting Chief Matthew Finck, the Manhattan (NY) District Attorney’s Office, and the United States Postal Inspection Service.

Based upon information received from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit began an investigation into the suspected manufacture and sale of fraudulent documents by KALVIN LOPEZ. On Friday, February 2, 2024, a court authorized search warrant was executed on LOPEZ’s residence in Elmwood Park, NJ by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, and the United States Postal Inspection Service. That search warrant resulted in the recovery of a significant volume of digitally stored fraudulent identification documents and financial instruments. Information recovered from LOPEZ’s apartment also led investigators to a second location in Haledon, NJ.

On Friday, February 9, 2024, a second search warrant was executed on the Haledon location, where detectives located a counterfeiting facility with numerous specialty printers, tools, and raw materials intended for the manufacture of fraudulent identification and financial documents.

On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, KALVIN LOPEZ was charged with second-degree possession with intent to sell false government documents, N.J.S.A. 2C:21-2.1(a); second-degree manufacture of false government documents, N.J.S.A. 2C:21-2.1(b); and second-degree trafficking in personal identifying information, N.J.S.A. 2C:21-17.3(b)2. LOPEZ was served with a Complaint-Warrant at the Bergen County Jail where he is awaiting extradition to New York.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Elmwood Park Police Department, the Haledon Police Department, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, and the United States Postal Inspection Service for their assistance with this investigation.
