Rockaway, NJ Man Charged With Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of KURT ZIMMERMANN (DOB:11/16/1968; married; teacher) of Rockaway, NJ on charges of aggravated sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Acting Chief Matthew Finck.

On Wednesday, January 3, 2024, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit was contacted by the Hopatcong (NJ) Police Department regarding alleged sexual conduct between a teacher and a student in Westwood, NJ. An investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that KURT ZIMMERMANN, while previously employed by the Westwood Regional School District as the Director of Bands, engaged in sexual conduct with a juvenile student between the ages of 13 and 17 on more than one occasion. The sexual conduct, which occurred in the past, was determined to have taken place at Westwood Regional Middle School in Westwood and at Westwood Regional High School in Washington Township.

As a result of the investigation, on Friday, February 23, 2024, KURT ZIMMERMANN was arrested in Paramus, NJ and charged with three counts of third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3a; and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, 2C:24-4a (1). ZIMMERMANN was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
