​Pennsylvania Resident Arrested for Shoplifting, Possessing Counterfeit Bills

Fairfield (NJ) – The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Angel Winns (23) of Philadelphia, PA on February 11, 2024, for shoplifting and numerous other charges. On that date at approximately 8:36 pm, officers were called to the Target store for a report of a road rage incident, with one person involved now inside Target. Officers arrived on scene and began to gather information when Winns, who was identified by the initial caller as being involved in the incident, exited the store,and got into her vehicle. It is alleged that Winns initially provided a false name to the officers.

Officers spoke with her about the alleged road rage incident. While doing so, Target security approached the officers allegedly identifying Winns as a suspect in a shoplifting incident that had just occurred. The total amount reported to have been shoplifted was $478.97.

Further investigation revealed that Winns allegedly paid cash for items at the register, using (5) one hundred-dollarbills. During the transaction, she allegedly switched out the (5) one hundred-dollar bills for (5) counterfeit bills, in an attempt to deceive the cashier. By the time the cashier noted the discrepancy, Winns had exited the store with the merchandise, but was stopped by police in the parking lot.

Winns was subsequently placed under arrest for shoplifting and possession of counterfeit money. It is alleged that she refused to sit in the police car and assaulted an officer during this time. She was eventually secured properly and transported to police headquarters for processing. Winns was charged with shoplifting, forgery, hindering apprehension, theft by deception, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence and criminal simulation. She was also issued several motor vehicle summonses.

Winns was transported to the Essex County Jail pendingan initial appearance.
