Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of NICHOLAS CAVANIOLA (DOB: 07/31/1992; single; mechanic) of Westwood, NJ on charges of sexual assault and child endangerment. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Acting Chief Matthew Finck.
On May 08, 2023, the Westwood Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile that occurred in the past. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that NICHOLAS CAVANIOLA sexually assaulted a child under the age of 13 in Westwood, NJ.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, on Wednesday, Feb 28, 2024, NICHOLAS CAVANIOLA was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault by sexual contact, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2b; and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A 2C:24-4a. CAVANIOLA was arrested in Hillsdale, NJ and remanded to the Bergen County Jail for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
