Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of RAHVAE RICHARDS (DOB: 09/12/1991; single; unemployed) of 263 Union Street, Apartment 12, Hackensack, NJ, currently incarcerated at Southwoods State Prison, on charges of possession of child sexual abuse material. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Acting Chief Matthew Finck.

On Thursday, February 9, 2023, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit were contacted by New Jersey State Parole Officers regarding a parolee who violated the terms of his release and was believed to be in possession of child pornography. RAHVAE RICHARDS was arrested on February 9, 2023, in Hackensack, NJ by parole officers for violating the conditions of his release.

Subsequently, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit conducted an investigation that involved a search of RAHVAE RICHARDS’s electronic devices, which revealed that RICHARDS viewed, downloaded, and/or possessed a total of 42,142 items depicting nude and/or sexually explicit prepubescent and pubescent children.

As a result of the investigation, on March 13, 2024, RAHVAE RICHARDS was charged with second-degree possession of child pornography, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(b)5(b)(ii). RICHARDS was served with a complaint-warrant at Southwoods State Prison, where he remains in custody.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella thanks the New Jersey State Parole Board for its assistance with the investigation.
