On March 7, 2024, at approximately 9:40 a.m., Police Officers Frank Losurdo and Joshua Campoverde responded to the Hoboken Shelter, 300 Bloomfield St., for reports of a disorderly person inside the shelter. A man, identified as 45-year-old Joseph Dietz of Jersey City, had been asked to leave the shelter due to him causing issues with other residents in a community room. Officers arrived and told him he had to leave and not return for thirty days. As they escorted him from the shelter, he stopped walking and issued threats to a shelter employee, implying he would cause, or attempt to cause, bodily injury with a knife or other sharp injury. Deitz was placed under arrest for making terroristic threats and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. He was told he was permanently banned from the Hoboken Shelter. He was found to have a warrant against him out of Hoboken for disorderly conduct and two counts of simple assault. He was processed and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
On March 7, 2024, at approximately 12:50 p.m. Police Officers Daniela Simone and Matthew Bonanno responded to the 600 block of Adams Street on a report of a man who had jumped a fence into a backyard. When they arrived, the man, who had no identification on him, gave them a fake name and date of birth. He had a bicycle with him. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he was recognized by officers and identified as 30-year-old Jarvis Carter of Jersey City. He was placed under arrest for criminal trespassing and hindering apprehension. It was learned the bicycle he had with him belonged to a resident and had been locked up inside the garage. Carter was further charged with theft and burglary. During this investigation, Carter was also connected to another burglary which took place on the 800 block of Willow Avenue on June 21, 2023. On that date, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Police Officers Jason Montalvo and Michael Straten responded to reports of a burglary where a resident scared off the suspect. Lieutenants James Peck and Keith Rotondi, Police Officer Tyrone Huggins and the Hudson County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit joined in a search for the suspect which was unsuccessful that night. On March 7, Detectives Michael Losurdo, John Quinones, and Fabian Quinones linked him to the June 21 incident. He was further charged and processed in connection to that case. Carter was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
On March 7, 2024, at approximately 3:35 p.m., Police Officers Dylan Archilla and Damian Bates responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of a shoplifter in custody. When they arrived, they learned that store security had observed a woman, later identified as 35-year-old Jossy Polanco of Jersey City place multiple items into her bags but only pay for some of them. She attempted to leave without paying for $230.39 worth of merchandise. When officers arrived, Polanco was arrested and charged with shoplifting. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, processed, and released with a summons.
On March 7, 2024, at approximately 5 p.m., Police Officers Alexander Miller and Jason Montalvo responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of a shoplifter acting aggressively toward loss prevention employees. Upon arrival they were pointed toward the man, later identified as 57-year-old Joseph Crandell of Hoboken. Lt. Jonathan Butler arrived on the scene. It was learned that store security observed Crandell try to leave after only paying for a portion of the groceries in his possession. Crandell, who had previously been banned from the store, was placed under arrest, transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, and processed on charges of shoplifting and defiant trespassing. He was released with a summons.
On March 8, 2024, at approximately 4:40 a.m., Sgt. James Barbro and Police Officers Aaron Font, Michael Straten, and Nicholas Protopapadakis responded to the 400 block of Washington Street on reports of a robbery, with the actor still in the area. Officers located a man nearby, later identified as 45-year-old Jason Iniguez of Jersey City, who matched the description of the man seen by a resident enter the basement of the building. Iniguez also matched the description of the suspect in a previous case on February 25, 2024, in which the same resident reported approximately $700 of his property was stolen from the building's basement. After reviewing surveillance video, officers arrested Iniguez. A search found him to have a glass cylindrical tube with a burnt end, commonly used to smoke CDS. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia. Iniguez was later transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
On March 8, 2024, at approximately 9:35 a.m. Police Officers David Chicara, Jessica Arebalo, and Daniela Simone responded to the 500 block of Jackson Street for reports of a non-resident in the staircase. When asked, the man gave a fake name and birthdate. Sgt. Adam Colon was able to identify him as 30-year-old Adolph Delbridge of Bayonne. He was charged with criminal trespassing and hindering. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and then to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
On March 9, 2024, at approximately 3 a.m., Police Officers Aaron Font and Keven De La Cruz were on routine patrol on the 50 block of Washington Street when bystanders advised them that a man had just pepper-sprayed someone. They were able to locate a man nearby, later identified as 22-year-old James McCaffery of Leonardo, who fit a description given by witnesses. Sgt. Luke Zeszotarski and Police Officers Andrias Bonilla, Marvin Dejesus, Michael Straten, and Nicholas Protopapadakis arrived on the scene. An on-scene investigation discovered that McCafferty started filming a man with his phone and when he was asked to stop, a pushing match began. After the pushing stopped, McCaffery sprayed the victim with pepper spray. The Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps treated the victim on the scene. McCaffery was placed under arrest and a search incident to arrest located a black can of pepper spray. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he refused to be fingerprinted. He was charged with aggravated assault to cause significant bodily injury, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, unlawful possession of weapons, and refusal to submit fingerprinting. He was released from police custody with a summons.
On March 9, 2024, at approximately 9 p.m., Police Officers Harold Milne and Alexander Miller responded to the 100 block of 13th Street for reports of a suspicious female who didn’t live there, pacing back and forth in the hallway and trying to enter several locked apartment doors. When they arrived, officers located a woman who matched the description of the suspect trying to open an amazon package that did not belong to her. An opened FedEx package was seen at her feet. The woman, later identified as 46-year-old Maria Letki of New York City, was placed under arrest and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. She was charged with burglary and package theft and released on a summons.
On March 10, 2024, at approximately 4:20 a.m., Police Officers Andrias Bonilla and Rose Kanan responded to the area of Newark and Bloomfield Streets on reports of loud music coming from a vehicle. They located the car and observed the driver, later identified as 34-year-old Craig Biggs of Irvington, sleeping. They woke him up to speak about the music. Police Dispatch informed the officers that Biggs had an open warrant for theft in Bloomfield and one for driving while intoxicated in East Orange. Sgt. Saverio Binetti and Detective Ryan Houghton arrived on the scene to assist. Biggs was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing on the theft and driving while intoxicated charges. He was transported to Bloomfield Police Department where officers there took custody of Biggs.
On March 10, 2024, at approximately 10:40 a.m., Police Officers Nasir Willey, Joshua Campoverde, and Cynthia Rivera were flagged down to assist someone in need of medical attention. This person was known to the officers as 49-year-old Kenneth Maccagnano of Hoboken. They knew him to have an active warrant out of Hoboken related to a report of a package theft on the 50 block of Grand Street. That report was taken by Police Officer David Chicara on January 4, 2024. Investigation by Detective Tyler Soto identified the actor as Maccagnano. On March 10, Maccagnano refused medical attention by the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps and was placed under arrest. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, processed on theft charges, and then transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
On March 10, 2024, at approximately 1:15 p.m., Lt. Keith Rotondi, Sgt. Adam Colon, and Police Officer Jessica Arebalo responded Lululemon, 313 Washington St. on reports of a shoplifting that had just occurred. The description of the suspect given by witnesses matched that of a suspect in other recent shoplifting cases at the same store. While canvassing the area, Lt. Rotondi observed a man who matched the description inside a blue Nissan Rogue on Hudson Street near Second Street. Officer Arebalo stopped the vehicle on the 100 block of Hudson Street. The driver, later identified as 53-year-old Paul Henderson of the Bronx, was asked to exit the vehicle, which he did and was detained by Sgt. Colon. The passenger, later identified as 47-year-old Carlos Nieves of the Bronx, also exited the vehicle. Several bags and dark colored items with the Lululemon tags still attached were observed in the backseat of the car. Henderson and Nieves were arrested and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. Police officer Nathaniel Arocho responded to the store and took witness statements. Henderson was found to have a warrant from Morris County from 2019 for receiving stolen property. Both men were charged with shoplifting and conspiracy to shoplift. A search of Nieves located two wax folds commonly used to store CDS heroin. He was further charged with possession of CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both Henderson and Nieves were transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
On March 10, 2024, at approximately 10:25 p.m., Police Officers Anthony Azzoline, Jason Montalvo, and Rose Kanan responded to Acme, 614 Clinton St., for reports of a shoplifting. Upon their arrival, store security told officers a woman, later identified as 43-year-old Taisha Wright of Jersey City, was seen putting multiple items into bags that were inside a shopping cart, but only paying for three of items. She was stopped trying to leave the store with more unpaid items, totaling approximately $608.54. Wright, who had originally given a fake name and birthdate, was placed under arrest. Search incident to arrest found her to be in possession of five wax folds containing suspected CDS heroin, six clear vials with blue caps containing a powdery rock like substance suspected to be CDS cocaine, 12 orange cylindrical containers containing a powdery rock like substance suspected to be CDS cocaine, four glass cylindrical tubes with burned copper wire mesh at the end suspected to be CDS paraphernalia, four metal rods suspected to be CDS paraphernalia, and several empty glass vials and orange cylindrical containers. Wright was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with shoplifting, possession of drug paraphernalia, being under the influence, and obstructing the administration of law. She was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
On March 11, 2024, at approximately 4 p.m., Police Officers Daniel Barron and Domenick Allegretta processed the arrest of 22-year-old Justin Britt of Bayonne, who walked into police headquarters to turn himself in for an active warrant on upgraded charges in a February 25, 2024. Britt was now being charged with aggravated assault due to a continuing investigation and updated victim injuries. Britt was processed and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility. The following day, on March 12, 2024, at approximately 10:25 a.m., 23-year-old Jayden Martinez of Bayonne turned himself in for processing on charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct in connection to the same incident. He was processed by Police Officer Jessica Pizane and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility
On March 11, 2024, at approximately 8:45 p.m., Police Officers Chelsea Tamborra and Jessica Pizanie responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of a shoplifter in custody. The store’s loss prevention officer had observed a man, later identified as 48-year-old Talat Sofian of Bayonne, try to leave the store, after only paying for some of the items in his cart and not paying for 36 items, totaling $300.87 dollars. He was arrested, transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with shoplifting. After processing, he was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
On March 12, 2024, at approximately 8:05 p.m., Sgt. Edward Sellick and Police Officers Shelby Seickendick, Paul Quinn, and Ramon Calderon responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of four women actively shoplifting. When they arrived, officers observed the individuals actively shoplifting and attempting to hide multiple items at self-checkout. Officers and store security stopped the actors as they attempted to leave the store. The women, later identified as 20-year old Alana Perez of Hoboken, 20-year-old Amira Colon of Hoboken, 21-year-old Aniyah Bond of Newark, and 23-year-old Nikcha Adolphe of Orange. Perez, Bond, and Adlophe were also wanted in a shoplifting that occurred the day before. Police Officers Jennifer Lee and Chelsea Tamborra arrived to assist. All four were arrested for shoplifting and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where they were processed and released on summons with a court date.
On March 12, 2024, at approximately 10:35 p.m., Detective Michael Losurdo was at CVS, 59 Washington St., when he observed a man in the make-up aisle placing products from the shelf into his oversized black coat. The Detective announced himself as a police officer and told the man to take the items out of his pockets. The man, later identified as 39-year-old Joseph Burigo of New York, was placed under arrest. Police Officers Daniel Barron and Daniel Grossi arrived to assist and conducted a full search of Burigo, which produced additional make-up products. Burigo was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. It was learned he tried to steal 15 beauty products that added up to $289.65. He was charged with shoplifting and released with a court date.
On March 12, 2024, at approximately 11:25 p.m., Police Officers Daniel Barron and Daniel Grossi responded to the area of First and Jefferson Streets on reports of a woman screaming in the street. While searching the area, they observed a woman known to them as 47-year-old Stacy Butler of Jersey City walking near First and Adams Streets. During investigation they observed suspected drug paraphernalia in her hands. She was placed under arrest and a search incident to arrest located two glass cylindrical pipes with burnt residue on the tips, a small blue bag containing one white wax-like fold, and one rolled up paper towel containing CDS Crack Cocaine. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with possession of CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was later transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
