6 Detectives Provide Life-Saving Treatment to Unresponsive Man

Posted Mon, Apr 15, 2024, From Hudson County Prosecutor's Office
Five Detectives with the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and a Jersey City Police Department Detective are credited with saving the life of a man who became unresponsive while visiting the HCPO’s Jersey City office.

On Thursday, April 11, 2024, shortly after 9 a.m., an individual became unresponsive while in the lobby area on the sixth floor of the Hudson County Administration Building. Detective Stephen King, Detective Salvatore Benanti, and Jersey City Detective Scott Rogers found the individual did not have a pulse. Detective Risheem Whitten, Detective Kristen Mikulak, and Detective Daniel Bellini quickly joined their colleagues to provide immediate, life-saving medical assistance.

Within minutes of rendering aid, the individual regained a pulse and was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center for additional treatment.

“In medical emergencies, such as this, mere seconds can determine the outcome of the situation,” said Prosecutor Esther Suarez. “Each of these Detectives demonstrated professionalism and utilized their training to ensure this individual received necessary and life-saving treatment. I am immensely proud of their quick response and thank our Detectives for answering the call to service.”

“These Detectives maintained their composure during a difficult situation and exhibited pride in their work,” said Chief of Detectives James Parker. “Their heroic efforts saved the life of an individual who we are sworn to protect and serve. I am incredibly proud of their swift actions and commend them on a job well done.”

“Saving a life can be one of the biggest accomplishments in a law enforcement career. It requires bravery, quick thinking, immediate action, and the application of training and experience,” said Captain Javier Toro, the Detectives’ Supervising Captain. “Our Detectives answered the call for help and rose to the occasion. We are extremely proud of their efforts and happy for the successful outcome.”

Prosecutor Suarez also credited the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance while awaiting the arrival of Emergency Medical Services.
