Hoboken Police Arrest Blotter May 2, 2024 to May 8, 2024

On May 3, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Police Officers Ramon Estrella and Damien Bates responded to the 800 block of Jackson Street on reports of a man in a garage trying to enter several vehicles and refusing to leave. Upon arrival they located the actor, later identified as 33-year-old Kenny Cordona of Jersey City, who appeared to be under the influence and couldn’t answer questions about why he was in the garage. It was discovered that Cardona had an outstanding warrant out of Atlantic City, and he was placed under arrest. A search incident to arrest found him with CDS crack cocaine. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he refused to be fingerprinted. He was charged with possession of CDS, burglary, and refusal to be fingerprinted. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On May 4, 2024, at approximately 2:50 p.m., Police Officers Geovanni Cruzado and Tyrone Huggins responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of a shoplifting where loss prevention officers had detained the actor, later identified as 33-year-old Arielle Mongon of Hoboken. Security had seen her place multiple items in her shopping cart and then attempted to leave after only paying for some of the items in her cart. She was stopped at the exit with $248.64 of unpaid merchandise. She was transported to the Hoboken Police Headquarters where she was processed on a charge of shoplifting. She was released on a summons with a court date.

On May 4, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Sgt. Adam Colon and Police Officers Josh Campoverde, Frank Losurdo, Christopher Barral, and Enrico Gnassi responded to the 500 block of Marshall Drive on reports of a group of individuals believed to be in possession of a firearm trespassing in a stairwell. Once inside the building, Sgt. Colon saw a man he knew to be 19-year-old Jamal Pitman of Jersey City. Pitman ran when he realized police officers were there and ignored calls to stop. Sgt. Colon chased Pitman on foot to the roof, where he observed Pitman descending from the landing. He was detained and placed in handcuffs. Police Officer Ramon Estrella arrived. Officers found a handgun and ammunition on a part of the roof easily accessible from the landing. It was later learned the handgun was reported missing out of Georgia. Pittman was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he was charged with burglary in possession of a firearm, possession of weapons for unlawful purposes, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of prohibited weapons and devices, receiving handgun ammunition, obstruction of the administration of law, obstruction of the administration of the law for discarding a firearm, resisting arrest, and theft of property which is lost, mislaid, or delivered by mistake. He was processed and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility. Two other individuals in the original group, later identified as 21-year-old Davante Gregory and 20-year-old Tyshawn Lane, both of Jersey City, were issued summonses for defiant trespassing.

On May 4, 2024, at approximately 6:10 p.m., Police Officers Rose Kanan and Harry Montalvo responded to the 100 block of Willow Avenue, on reports of a man causing a disturbance. When they arrived, they were told the actor, later identified as 19-year-old Anthony Diaz of Hoboken was being disorderly inside a convenience store and was asked to leave by the clerk. Once outside, he got into a verbal argument with another man who had been in the store and threatened him by saying “I'll be back” and implying with his hands that he had a weapon. He also yelled profanities at patrons of a nearby restaurant, before walking into a nearby residential building. Sgt. Anthony Russo and Police Officer Raymond Calderon arrived on the scene. Diaz came back outside and witnesses, including the man he threatened, pointed him out to police. Officers told him to stop, but he attempted to walk back into the building. He was stopped and officers located a black stun gun in his pocket. Diaz was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, unlawful possession of a weapon, making terroristic threats, and obstructing the administration of the law. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, processed, and then transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On May 4, 2024, at approximately 8:55 p.m., Police Officers Joshua Campoverde and Christopher Barral responded to the South Orange Police Department to pick up 47-year- old Raul Aponte of Jersey City, who was wanted on a warrant in Hoboken. The warrant was for a package theft committed on the 100 block of 13th Street on September 6, 2023. During a follow-up investigation, Det. Michael Losurdo identified Aponte as the actor using video footage and issued the charges on a warrant on October 11, 2023. Once he was at Hoboken Police Headquarters, Aponte was charged with burglary and package theft, processed, and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On May 4, 2024, at approximately 11:15 p.m., Police Officers Domenick Allegretta and Marvin Dejesus were patrolling the area of Third and Jackson Streets when a red laser beam was shined into their vehicle. They believed it to be coming from a fourth-floor window of a building on the 300 block of Jackson Street. Sgt. Ryan Houghton and Police Officer Matthew Bonanno arrived to assist. They went to the apartment where it was believed the laser came from and arrested 34-year-old Miguel Mongon of Hoboken. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with aggravated assault. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On May 5, 2024, at approximately 12:10 a.m., Police Officers Brandon Fitzgibbons and Frank Losurdo responded to the 1000 block of Madison Street on reports of a burglary and theft. The building's security company advised the officers that someone had entered the building and was stealing packages from the mail room. While on their way to the scene, they observed a man who matched a description given of the suspect, carrying a large black garbage bag. They stopped the man, later identified as 39-year-old Flavio Ordonez of Union City, on the 900 block of Madison Street and found him to be in possession of packages addressed to residents of nearby buildings. He was arrested, charged with burglary and theft of packages of residential property, and processed at Hoboken Police Headquarters. It was discovered he had an outstanding warrant out of Weehawken. Ordonez was ultimately transported to the Weehawken Police Department to be processed on that warrant.

On May 5, 2024, at approximately 4:40 a.m., Police Officers Joshua Campoverde and Nassir Wiley responded to the 200 block of Adams Street on reports of a dispute. When they arrived, they met a woman, later identified as 39-year-old Takyra Kitchens of Hoboken leaving the building. An on-scene investigation revealed that Kitchens and a man got into a verbal argument, and she hit him in the back of the neck. The victim didn’t file any complaints. Kitchens was found to have a traffic warrant out of Jersey City. She was released on the scene with a new court date for failing to appear on that warrant out of Jersey City.

On May 5, 2024, at approximately 4:25 p.m., Police Officers Arturo Gonzalez and Nasir Willey, responded to Church Square Park, on reports of a woman trying to strangle a man with a cane. Police Officer Domenick Allegretta arrived on the scene to assist. An on-scene investigation revealed that the actor, later identified as 49-year-old Patricia Lavacchi of Jersey City, had pushed the victim against a wall knocking him unconscious, and then kicked him in the chest and stomach before leaving the area. Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to treat the victim who was taken to the hospital. Police Officer Christopher Barral observed Lavacchi walking near the intersection of Fourth and Jackson Streets. Police Officers Ramon Estrella, Harry Montalvo, and Remy Garcia-Marte responded and placed Lavacchi under arrest. During the arrest, she pulled away and tensed up in an effort to resist arrest, and she kicked one officer who was not injured. During transport to Hoboken Police Headquarters, Lavacchi threated to kill officers and she spit on the plastic partition between them. She continued to spit at officers and threaten them once at headquarters, where she was processed on charges of aggravated assault, endangering an injured victim, resisting arrest, aggravated assault on a police officer, making terroristic threats, throwing bodily fluid at law enforcement officers. She was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On May 5, 2024, at approximately 9:25 p.m., Sgt. Ryan Houghton, Sgt. Adam Colon, and Police Officers Alexander Miller, Matthew Bonanno, Enrico Gnassi, Arturo Gonzalez, Christopher Barral, and Nassir Willey were involved in the arrest of a juvenile from Bayonne. After stopping five individuals who were seen chasing another juvenile, they located a kitchen knife on one of them. That juvenile was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon. He was released with a summons, into the custody of a parent. The other juveniles were transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and placed in protective custody until family members took custody of them.

On May 6, 2024, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Police Officers Shyenna Vega and Mark Mooreman were conducting a building sweep of a Hoboken Housing Authority building on the 300 block of Marshall Drive when they observed a nonresident, later identified as 26-year-old Edin Navarrette of Jersey City, standing in the area for a long period of time. It was learned that Navarrette had warrants out of Jersey City, Union City, and Hoboken. He was arrested on those warrants and a search incident to arrest located a wax fold in his possession. He was further charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and defiant trespassing. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, processed, and ultimately transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On May 6, 2024, at approximately 7:55 p.m., Sgt. Ryan Houghton and Police Officer Jaydan Gonzalez were on foot patrol of the Hoboken Housing Authority and observed two non-residents engage in a drug transaction on the 300 block of Harrison Street. After the transaction, one of the actors ran off, but the other, later identified as 29-year-old James Maloney of Hoboken, walked toward the officers and they stopped him on the 400 block of Marshall Drive. He was arrested. Police Officer Kyle Seper arrived on the scene and conducted a search incident to arrest and found a medical container containing an unknown pill, and drug paraphernalia including an empty needle syringe, a small plastic bag, and a broken plastic straw with a pill stuck inside. Maloney was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing. He was charged with possession of prescription legend drugs, defiant trespassing, wandering or loitering to obtain or distribute CDS, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was wanted on four warrants out of Hoboken and one in Jersey City. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility. Sgt. Ryan Houghton, Detective Fabian Quinones, and Police Officer Samuel Flores were able to recognize and identify the other actor as 22-year-old Jaden Crandell of Hoboken. He was charged with possession of prescription legend drugs. The next day, on May 7, 2024, at approximately 10:55 a.m., Crandell turned himself into Hoboken Police Headquarters. He was processed on the charge by Police Officer Jennifer Lee and released with a summons.

On May 6, 2024, at approximately 9:05 p.m., Sgt. Adam Colon and Police Officers Matthew Bonanno, Domenick Allegretta, and Joseph Spano were doing a sweep of a Hoboken Housing Authority Building on the 500 block of Marshall Drive when they encountered a non-resident, later identified as 54-year-old Antonio Melendez of Hoboken, in a stairwell, and observed open wax folds on the ground next to him. While they were speaking with Melendez, another man, later identified as 60- year-old Charles Bryant of Jersey City, walked into the stairwell and was stopped for trespassing. It was learned that Bryant had an open warrant, and he was placed under arrest. A search incident to arrest found him with two pipes with burnt ends and copper mesh, both known to be used for CDS. He was also in possession of a folding knife. Bryant was charged with defiant trespassing and possession of drug paraphernalia. It was discovered he had two warrants out of Hoboken, one for drug possession and the other for theft. Melendez was also arrested and a search incident to arrest found two used needles and a clear tube with burnt tips both known to be used for CDS. He was also in possession of a pocketknife, two clear baggies with suspected CDS crack cocaine inside, and a green pill bottle with CDS crack cocaine. A search of his bag located copper mesh commonly used to consume CDS and five capped needles inside of a white bag. He was charged with possession of CDS, possession of prescription legend drugs without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia, defiant trespassing. Both Melendez and Bryant were taken to the Hoboken Police Headquarters, processed on all, and ultimately transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On May 7, 2024, at approximately 7:35 a.m., Sgt. James Barbro and Police Officers Brandon Fitzgibbons and Alexander Miller responded to the area of Eighth and Hudson Streets on reports of a missing person with warrants possibly located. Upon arrival, they located the man, later identified as 43-year-old Damont Dyer of Hoboken. It was discovered he was reported missing and had warrants out of Hoboken and Hudson County for aggravated assault and lewdness. He was placed under arrest and a search incident to arrest found a broken clear cylindrical glass tube with burnt edges on both ends, commonly used to smoke CDS crack cocaine, and a plastic wrapper containing several Brillo shreds, also commonly used to smoke CDS crack cocaine. He was also found to have a thin metal stick referred to as a push rod which is commonly used to pack crack cocaine into the glass tube. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he was processed and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On May 8, 2024, at approximately 11:50 a.m., Sgt. Salverio Binetti and Police Officers Harry Montalvo, Samuel Flores, and Dylan Archilla were on walking patrol on the 500 block of Jackson Street in the Hoboken Housing Authority (HHA), when they observed a man unfamiliar to them and who they believed was not a resident of the HHA, walking toward them in a manner that made them believe he was under the influence. They approached the man, later identified as 44-year-old Gregory Almonte of North Bergen. It was discovered he had two warrants out of Hoboken for harassment and obstructing administration of the law. He was placed under arrest and additionally charged with bail jumping, transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, and processed. He was later transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On May 8, 2024, at approximately 7:50 p.m., Detective Paul Quinn and Police Officers Dylan Archilla and Samuel Flores responded to the 300 block of Jackson Street on reports of a shoplifter. Police Officers Anthony Ingraffia and Daniela Simone were already on the scene with the actor, who officers knew as 42-year-old Shavon Smith of Jersey City. Sgt. James Barbro and Police Officer Alexander Miller spoke with an employee of Super Foods, 301 Jackson St., who said Smith has shoplifted many times in the past, and during this incident she was seen taking a beverage and trying to leave without paying. She was arrested, transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, and charged with shoplifting. She was later transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility
