Guttenberg Police Blotter - May 6th, 2024 to May 12th, 2024

1. On May 9th, 2024, members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to the 400 block of 68th Street after receiving a report of a male and female engaged in a dispute. During their on-scene investigation, officers arrested 34-year-old Emilio Otero-Perez of Jersey City, NJ, after discovering that he had an active warrant issued by the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office. Additionally, officers uncovered that Mr. Otero-Perez was in possession of a full-metal jacket bullet without possessing a firearms identification card and in possession of a pipe believed to be used to ingest crack cocaine. Mr. Otero-Perez was then transported to the Guttenberg Police Department for his arrest processing, where he was charged with the unlawful possession of handgun ammunition [2C:58-3.3] and the possession of drug paraphernalia [2C:36-2A]. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Otero-Perez was issued his complaint warrant and lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center.

2. On May 10th, 2024, a male walked into the Guttenberg Police Department to turn himself in for an active warrant issued by the North Bergen Municipal Court. Members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division then placed 23-year-old Richard Canario of Union City, NJ, under arrest. At our police headquarters, Mr. Canario was processed and then released on his own recognizance, pending his next court appearance with the North Bergen Municipal Court.

3. On May 11th, 2024, members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to John F. Kennedy Boulevard East after receiving a report of a serious motor vehicle crash with injuries. Upon arrival, officers began their investigation and ultimately arrested 33-year-old Tariq A. Hobbs of Long Island City, NY, for hindering his own apprehension [2C:29-3B(1)] after he refused to identify himself when required to do so. During the course of their investigation, officers also charged Mr. Hobbs with driving while intoxicated [39:4-50] and with assault by auto while operating his vehicle under the influence of an intoxicating substance [2C:12-1C(2)]. Mr. Hobbs was transported to the Guttenberg Police Department, where he was processed and issued his complaint warrant. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Hobbs was lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center.


The charges above are merely accusations. Every defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
