On April 2, Det. Sgt. Michael DeMaio issued arrest warrants for Christian Calderon, Paterson NJ, age 50, and Caceda Adelaida, Paterson NJ, age 27. Upon the conclusion of an investigation, they were both charged with shoplifting that occurred on February 22, 2024, at the Marshall’s store.
On March 27, the manager of Kearny Bank reported a fraudulent withdrawal had occurred in the past. Det. Sgt. Michael Ragucci investigated and discovered that there were several victims whose bank accounts had fraudulent withdrawals made. Upon the conclusion of his investigation, he issued arrest warrants for Mya Rivera, Kearny NJ, age 22. She was charged with one count of identity theft, and two counts of computer criminal activity for each of the five victims that were identified.
On April 26, at approximately 6:00 PM, officers were dispatched to Godwin Avenue and Godwin Drive on a report that a vehicle was stopped in the middle of the road and the driver appeared to be asleep. The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of Marcus Garone, Wyckoff NJ, age 33. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
On May 4, at approximately 10:30 PM, officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Route 208 North at Grandview Avenue. The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of Andrew Pilipiak, Mahwah NJ, age 36. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to inspect his vehicle, and refusing to submit to breath samples.
On May 8, at approximately 7:15 PM, P.O. Kenneth Marcoux attempted to stop two off road motorbikes that were being operated on Township property. The riders failed to stop and drove away from the marked police vehicle. A short while later, P.O. Kathleen Powderley observed the two motorbikes on Franklin Avenue and attempted to stop them. The riders again failed to stop. The subsequent investigation led to the arrests of a 16-yearold male from Wyckoff and a 16-year-old male from Franklin Lakes. They were charged on juvenile complaints for 3 rd degree eluding. They were also issued motor vehicle summonses for careless driving, reckless driving, driving on the sidewalk, failure to observe a traffic control device, failure to maintain a lane, and operating a motor vehicle without a license, registration, and insurance. Det. Sgt. Michael DeMaio investigated an earlier incident that was reported on April 20, 2024, concerning the reckless operation of motorbikes on a Township roadway. He confirmed that the same two juveniles were involved in that incident. He issued six additional motor vehicle summonses to each of the juveniles.
Chief Murphy would like to remind residents that door to door solicitors are required to obtain and display a valid Wyckoff permit while soliciting. Solicitors who have a permit have undergone a background investigation and been approved by the police department to solicit door to door. Non-profit groups are exempt from having to obtain solicitor permits. They are required to contact police communications and provide a list of persons soliciting, the area that they are in, and supervisors information. The Township of Wyckoff does have a “Do not knock list” which is provided to all solicitors who obtain a permit. They are advised to disregard those residences on the list. Residents should report any negative encounter with solicitors to Wyckoff Communications at 201-891-2121.
The Wyckoff Police Department would like to point out that the above individuals have been charged with a crime, offense, and or motor vehicle violations. However, they are presumed innocent unless and until they are found guilty in a court of law.
We cannot stress enough the value of our residents remaining alert in their neighborhoods and reporting anything unusual or suspicious to the police, “Hear It! See It!, Report It!”
