Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of JAHAN A. HENDLEY, 23, of Clifton, NJ on charges of armed robbery, kidnapping and other related offenses. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck and the Allendale Police Department under the direction of Chief Michael Dillon.
On Monday, March 25, 2024, at approximately 3:48 p.m., the Allendale Police Department responded to a reported dispute at an apartment complex. Upon arrival, officers discovered that an armed robbery occurred and the assailant fled the scene. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad was notified, responded, and initiated a joint investigation with the Allendale Police Department into the incident.
During the investigation, officers and detectives determined that the victim was confronted outside of his home by the suspect who produced a handgun and led the victim back inside his apartment. During the robbery, the suspect assaulted the victim in the apartment. The suspect stole marijuana, approximately $900 in cash, and a bottle of liquor from the residence. While fleeing, the suspect pointed his gun at another victim who was unrelated to the incident and in the area of the apartment complex.
As a result of a two-month investigation, JAHAN A. HENDLEY was identified as the suspect, and the robbery is not believed to be a random occurrence. HENDLEY, who was already incarcerated at the Bergen County Jail on an unrelated matter, was served with the following charges on May 20, 2024: first-degree armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1a(1); first-degree kidnapping, N.J.S.A. 2C:13-1b(1); second-degree armed burglary, N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2a(1); second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1); second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1); third-degree terroristic threats, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3b; two counts of fourth-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(4); and a disorderly persons offense of simple assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1a(1). HENDLEY remains in custody in the Bergen County Jail.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella thanks the Allendale Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with this investigation.
