Ridgefield Man Charged With Attempted Murder and Sexual Assault

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 33-year-old JULIO AMARO-VASQUEZ of Ridgefield, NJ on charges of attempted murder, attempted aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault, attempted sexual assault by contact, and endangering the welfare of a child. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck, and the Fairview Police Department under the direction of Chief Vincent Bellucci.

On Monday, June 10, 2024, the Fairview Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding a child under the age of thirteen who was allegedly attacked in Fairview, NJ. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Fairview Police Department revealed that JULIO AMARO-VASQUEZ strangled a child under the age of thirteen, to the point of unconsciousness, before attempting to sexually assault the child.

As a result of the investigation JULIO AMARO-VASQUEZ was arrested in Fairview, NJ and charged with first-degree attempted murder, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1/11-3a(1); second-degree attempted aggravated sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1/14-2(a)(1); second-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b)(1); third-degree attempted sexual assault by contact, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1/14-2b; and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 24-4a. AMARO-VASQUEZ was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Fairview Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
