Jersey City Man Charged Following Sexual Assault Investigation

On Monday, June 17, 2024, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with a sexual assault that occurred in Jersey City on Sunday, June 2, 2024.

Marc Toledo, of Jersey City, is charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(3), a crime of the first degree; Kidnapping in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:13-1b(1), a crime of the first degree; Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(3), a crime of the second degree; Aggravated Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1), a crime of the second degree; Terroristic Threats in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3b, a crime of the third degree; and Criminal Restraint in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:13-2a, a crime of the third degree. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City and later transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

In the morning hours of Sunday, June 2, 2024, a 22-year-old female victim reported being approached by an unknown male in a Journal Square neighborhood. The victim entered the white vehicle the male was operating. The male drove the victim a short distance to the area of Division Street and Eighth Street at approximately 7 a.m. The victim reported she was sexually assaulted in the vehicle.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit with the investigation and arrest, with assistance from the United States Marshals Service and the Jersey City Police Department. The matter remains under investigation. The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
