Paterson Man Arrested For Sexual and Aggravated Assault

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces that based upon an investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, Keshawn Harley, 38 years-old, from Paterson, New Jersey, was arrested in connection to a sexual assault that took place on June 16, 2023. Keshawn Harley is charged with Sexual Assault, Second Degree; Aggravated Assault, Third Degree, and the Disorderly Persons offense of Simple Assault.

On June 17, 2023, an adult female victim reported that she had been sexually assaulted and physically assaulted on June 16, 2023, in the area of 10th Avenue in East 26th Street in Paterson. Based on the ensuing investigation conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Keshawn Harley was identified and charged. On June 16, 2024, at approximately 10:00 a.m. members of the Passaic County Prosecutors Office arrested Keshawn Harley in the area of Park Avenue and East 22nd Street in Paterson, New Jersey.

The sentencing exposure on second degree Sexual Assault is 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison with 85% of the sentence to be served before parole eligibility pursuant to the No Early Release Act; on third degree Aggravated Assault it is 3 to 5 years in New Jersey State; and on the disorderly persons offense of Simple Assault it is up to 6 months in county jail.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pretrial detention which will be heard before the Honorable Barbara J. Buono Stanton, J.S.C., on June 25, 2024.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
