Darren Estevez
A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a triple shooting that occurred in Jersey City on Sunday, April 7, 2024.
Darren Estevez, of Jersey City, is charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1)/(2); Conspiracy to Commit Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2a(1) and N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1)/(2); Possession of Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1); Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1); and two counts of Aggravated Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1). He was arrested in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday, June 23, 2024, by members of the Orlando Police Department on an unrelated matter. Estevez is being held as a Fugitive from Justice at the Orange County Corrections Department pending extradition to New Jersey.
During the early phases of the investigation, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit arrested Aaliyah Rivera, 23, of Jersey City. Rivera is charged with Murder as an Accomplice in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:2-6c(1)(b) and N.J.S.A 2C:11-3a(1) and Conspiracy to Commit Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2a(1) and N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1)/(2). She was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office on April 24, 2024, and is being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
At approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2024, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots fired in the area of Central Avenue and Bowers Street. Upon arrival, officers located two victims with apparent gunshot wounds and both were transported to Jersey City Medical Center. Freddie Posey, 25, of Jersey City, was pronounced dead shortly after 9:30 p.m. A 30-year-old Jersey City female was treated for a non-life threatening injury. A third victim, a 24-year-old Jersey City male, self-transported to University Hospital in Newark with a non-life threatening injury.
This matter remains under investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department.
