Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.

During this 4th of July holiday, please remember that eight Americans, including one from Tenafly, Edan Alexander, are still being held hostage by Hamas, and we are praying for their return.

The Recycling Center is open this weekend on Saturday and Sunday as normal. Thursday’s, July 4th recycling (Zone 2 commingled) will be picked up on Monday, July 8.

The Library is closed for repairs for a few days. However, the staff is working and you can call the library at 201-568-8680 to arrange for pick up requests. Check the Borough website for reopening updates.

Due to mechanical issues at the Tenakill Swim Club, club members and Senior Center Pool Pass holders will be welcome at the Cresskill Municipal Pool located on 3rd Street throughout the weekend. Details are available on the Tenakill Swim Club Facebook page regarding Cresskill's hours of operation as well as Tenakill's hours on Saturday evening to dine al fresco and watch the fireworks.

The Tenafly Fourth of July fireworks are this Saturday, located behind the High School. Pre fireworks events begin at 7:30 pm, with a performance by world renowned artist and multi instrumentalist Cyro Baptista and his Joyous Brazilian and World Music Band. Cyro has worked and traveled the world and performed with Paul Simon, Trey Anastasio, David Byrne, Carlos Santana, James Taylor and Herbie Hancock. His highly spirited and original music is guaranteed to delight. You won’t want to miss this performance. The fireworks show begins at 9 pm. Rain date is Sunday.

The Nature Center trails and programs are open this weekend for everyone including Butterfly Feedings and Crafty Critters. One more week till the Hudson River Sails. Enjoy a relaxing sail aboard a local historic tall ship. Help raise the sails and experience the beauty of the river, the majestic Palisades and city skyline. Children's sails contain activities that are hands-on and interactive so your young sailor can learn about the Hudson watershed. Adult sails feature brewery samplings from a local spot or the musical notes of a singer/songwriter on our Music & History on the Hudson sail. Register at tenaflynaturecenter.org

Visit the new exhibit, "Resonance" at the Korean Community Center Gallery. Featuring emerging Korean artists who explore the deep connections between interacting energies, the push and pull of forces in equilibrium, and how the harmonious blend of different frequencies resonates. Running July 3 to 30th. Opening reception is this Saturday July 6, from 5 pm to 7 pm on Grove street.

This coming Tuesday, July 9, the Summer Concert Series at Huyler Park kicks off its star studded season at 7:00 PM with Grammy Award nominee and Tenafly favorite, Divinity Rox and her electrifying band, performing her family show of rhythm and blues, hip hop, funk, soul and rock. Divinity Rox is celebrated for her ability to inspire others with her infectious grooves and memorable lyrics.

On Thursday, July 11, Tenafly’s own, Mel Nusbaum returns with JAZZ ZONE, a star studded Jazz Quintet performing originals and jazz classics.

This year, in case of rain the concerts will be relocated to the comfortable and performance friendly High School auditorium located at 19 Columbus Drive.

Reading Under the Stars, Wednesday, July 10 from 6 pm to 8 pm, for ages 3 years to 5th grade. Outside, weather permitting, bring a blanket and dinner is included. Guest author, Dr. Valerie Williams-Sanchez will share her book, Isaiah and the Chocolate Mountain. At the Presbyterian Church, free of charge, donations welcome. RSVP to 201-567-0111.

For two weekends in July, the 13th and 14th and the 20th and 21st, experience the fascinating world of aerodynamics and propulsion with the Tenafly Rocket Pioneers. For those ages 7 to 13, you can take part in this free, hands on bottle rocket experience hosted by local High School students. For learn more and sign up, email Ben at: bedreyer2006@gmail.com

The Tenafly students Interact Club is creating a video for Grandparents Day, September 8. The purpose of the video is to encourage people to spend time with Grandparents and Senior family members while engaged in and recording short conversations or activities. Your video, or audio clip with a photo, should be limited to 30-45 second clips. Everyone is welcome to make a submission. All the completed videos and audio clips will be posted on the Interact Club YouTube Channel. Clips can be submitted to Winsten Lamb at email: 25wlam@tenafly.k12.nj.us The video will premiere on September 9.

Maker's Night, enjoy arts and crafts hands on fun! Wednesday, July 24, 6 to 8 PM, ages 4 years to 6th grade, must be accompanied by an adult. Wonderful social event with dinner included. Free of charge, donations welcome. At the Presbyterian Church. Register by July 21 to 201-567-0111.
