On June 20, 2024, at approximately 1:40 a.m., Lt. Michael Costello observed a motorized bicycle crash into his parked unmarked patrol car which had emergency lights activated. The driver was unconscious but breathing. Lt. Donald Rosso and Police Officers Joseph Spano, Cynthia Rivera, and Marvin Dejesus arrived on the scene to assist. Officers identified the man as 34-year-old Christopher Taverez of Union City. The Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps was called and took the man to an area hospital for treatment to his injuries. A blood alcohol test was conducted. Tavarez was issued motor vehicle summonses for operating a motorized bicycle under the influence of liquor or drugs, reckless driving, and driving with a suspended license. Tavarez was found to have active arrest warrants from Cliffside Park and the Pike County, Pennsylvania Sheriff's Office. As per John’s law, Tavarez was released into the custody of a responsible party.
On June 20, 2024, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Police Officers Shawn Sodora and Teddy Santiago responded to Hoboken University Medical Center to relieve Police Officer Cynthia Rivera on a prisoner watch. The prisoner, identified as 34-year-old Emilio Otero-Perez of Jersey City, became agitated and violent, kicking officers. He was charged with aggravated assault. Otero-Perez was originally arrested by Police Officers Alexander Miller and Joseph Spano in Steven’s Park on June 18, where he was being disorderly, yelled at parents and children, and acted erratically by laying on the ground and grunting as if to imitate an animal. Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corp was called, and he was transported to HUMC. A search of his property revealed a glass cylindrical pipe with a bowl at the end commonly used to ingest CDS methamphetamine. On that date, he was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Otero-Perez was issued summons.
On June 22, 2024, at approximately 8:05 p.m., Police Officers Harry Montalvo and Cynthia Rivera were on patrol in the area of Hudson and Second Streets when they observed a man lying on the ground. Officers Jason Montalvo and Rose Kanan responded to the scene and identified the male as 56-year-old Miguel Matamoros of Hoboken, whom they had a call for service with earlier in the day. Matamoros appeared to be under the influence and was sitting hunched over an open container of an alcoholic beverage. Sgt. Adam Colon arrived on the scene. It was learned that Matamoros had a warrant out of Union City. He was issued a summons for having an open container and released from the scene.
On June 22, 2024, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Police Officers Cynthia Rivera and Harry Montalvo responded to Hoboken University Medical Center, 308 Willow Ave., on reports of a man throwing rocks into a security vehicle parked outside of the emergency room. Officers observed a man who fit the description of the actor walking toward them outside of the hospital. When officers approached and began to question him, the man ran off. He was stopped by Officers Montalvo and Matthew Bonanno on the 300 block of Grand Street. The man was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and gave police an incorrect name. He was identified as 26-year-old Jan Mario Williams Rivera of Bayonne. He was charged with criminal mischief, obstruction, resisting arrest by flight, hindering, and refusal to be fingerprinted. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
On June 23, 2024, at approximately 2:50 a.m., Detective Michael Losurdo and Police Officer Joshua Campoverde were on the 70 block of Hudson Street when an unidentified man approached them. Police Officers Ramon Estrella, Nasir Wiley, Cynthia Rivera, and Andrias Bonilla were also on the scene. The man was hostile toward officers who were in the area on an unrelated investigation. At one point, while telling the man to step back, he swiped his hand at officers. He was placed under arrest and a search incident to arrest located two small clear bags containing a white powdery substance believed to be CDS Cocaine. Officers also found cash that was in denominations consistent with narcotic sales. The man had identification that belonged to someone else. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and identified as 21-year-old Derrick Feaster of North Bergen. He refused to be photographed and fingerprinted. He was charged with possession of CDS cocaine, possession with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public park, possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, obstructing the administration of the law, refusal to submit to fingerprints, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
On, June 24, 2024, at approximately 6:20 a.m., Police Officers Nasir Willey and Keven De La Cruz responded to the Hoboken Shelter, 300 Bloomfield St., on reports of a sexual assault. Police Officer Rose Kanan observed a man who matched the description of the suspect on the 100 block of Washington Street. The victim confirmed it was the actor. He was later identified as 29-year-old Christopher Baez of Hoboken. Baez was arrested and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with criminal sexual contact. Baez was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
On June 24, 2024, at approximately 8:40 a.m., Sgt. Severio Binetti and Police Officers Marco Grossman, Nathaniel Arocho, Tyrone Huggins, and Christopher Hatfield responded to ShopRite, 900 Madison St., on reports of two men shoplifting. Store security told officers the men, currently banned from the store for previous shoplifting cases, were in aisle four. As the two men tried to leave without paying for items in their cart, officers stopped them. The men were identified as 47-year-old Michael Fortune of Jersey City and 51-year-old Antonio Kelly of Jersey City. They were attempting to leave with items totaling approximately $292. They were transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with shoplifting and trespassing. It was discovered Fortune had an open warrant out of Hoboken. Both men were transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility for incarceration.
On June 24, 2024, at approximately 2:20 p.m., Police Officer Jessica Pizanie responded to the 1100 block of Madison Street on reports that a wanted man was in the area. When she arrived, she observed a man known to her as 43-year-old Marcus Morales of Hoboken who had an active warrant issued by New Jersey Transit Police. The warrant was confirmed, and Morales was placed under arrest. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. He had warrants for simple assault and loitering to obtain or distribute CDS. Morales was ultimately taken into custody by New Jersey Transit Police.
On June 24, 2024, at approximately 6 p.m., Police Officers Shelby Seickendick and John Rodriguez responded to Pier A Park in reports of an assault. Police Officers Kyle Seper and Ramon Calderon were on the scene with a man, later identified as 35-year-old Joshua Jackson of Jersey City, who witnesses pointed out as the actor. The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Sgt. Dennis Figueroa, Sgt. Roary Miller, and Police Officers Anish Bhisey and Joseph Spano arrived on the scene. Jackson was placed under arrest for aggravated assault and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. Jackson was later transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
On June 25, 2024, at approximately 11:55 a.m., Police Officer Joseph DiMartino was on patrol in the area of Fifth and Garden Streets when he was approached by a resident who said his vehicle had been broken into overnight while parked on the area of 10th Street and Park Avenue. The victim followed an air tag signal attached to the stolen items to Church Square Park. Police Officer Brandon Fitzgibbons arrived on the scene. The officers followed the signal and located a man sleeping in bushes, with several bags around him. The man, later identified as 26-year-old Cristian Mejia of Guttenburg, was instructed to come out. In the bags, officers located a Craftsman tool bag with multiple tools inside, a black cylinder humidifier, an orange bag containing LED road flares, jumper cables, a first aid kit, a black Ray Ban pouch with sunglasses, a package belonging to a resident on the 700 block of Park Avenue, a roadside emergency kit, more miscellaneous tools, clothing, a backup camera, a Hermes dog collar, a multi-charge port, dog leashes, a flashlight, Apple headphones, charging cables, and air tags. Some of the items belonged to the resident who stopped Officer DiMartino. The total value for the recovered items was approximately $660. Mejia was placed under arrest and a search incident to arrest found two glass cylinders with burnt residue, commonly used to ingest CDS. He was transported to headquarters and charged with receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
