Police Officer from South Hackensack Charged with Aggravated Assault

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 42-year-old DAVID CHUN of South Hackensack, NJ (employed as a police officer with the Palisades Park Police Department) on multiple charges related to a series of threats, aggravated assaults, and instances of endangering the welfare of a child. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck.

On Friday, July 19, 2024, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Confidential Investigations Unit received information regarding the alleged assault of an adult female and endangering the welfare of two children that occurred in the past. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that between 2019 and 2023, DAVID CHUN threatened and assaulted a female on multiple occasions in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. Additionally, detectives determined that CHUN endangered the welfare of two young children during the same course of conduct.

As a result of the investigation, on Monday, July 22, 2024, DAVID CHUN was charged with five counts of second-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b (1); second-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b (13); third-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b (7); fourth-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b (4); seven counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a (2); third-degree terroristic threats, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3a; third-degree terroristic threats, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3b; and criminal mischief, a disorderly persons offense. CHUN was arrested in Paramus, NJ and remanded to the Bergen County Jail for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
