Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 26-year-old JONATHAN D. HAGLEY of New York, NY on charges of murder, weapon possession, and obstructing justice. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck and the Teaneck Police Department under the direction of Chief Andrew McGurr.

As previously reported, the Teaneck Police Department responded to a shooting at a private residence on Hickory Street in Teaneck, NJ on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at approximately 8:25 a.m. Officers arrived at the residence and discovered a 26-year-old woman, later identified as Naomi Hagley, with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased. First responders determined that the suspect was a family member who fled the scene. Accordingly, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, along with officers from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and the Bogota Police Department all responded to the incident.

During the course of the joint investigation, it was determined that JONATHAN D. HAGLEY, who is the twin brother of the victim, shot Naomi Hagley multiple times and fled on foot. HAGLEY was located several blocks from the scene of the shooting by officers from the Bogota Police Department who were providing assistance during this incident. A handgun with a defaced serial number was recovered near the crime scene.

As a result of the investigation, JONATHAN D. HAGLEY was charged with first-degree murder, N.J.S.A 2C:11-3a(1) and N.J.S.A 2C:11-3a(2); second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, N.J.S.A 2C:39-5b(1); second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A 2C: 39-4a(1); second-degree certain persons not to have weapons or ammunition, N.J.S.A 2C: 39-7b(1); third-degree possession of a defaced firearm, N.J.S.A 2C: 39-9e; and fourth-degree obstructing justice, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-1a. HAGLEY was transported to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, NJ pending a detention hearing.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Teaneck Police Department, the Bogota Police Department, and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
