News Update from the Mayor

Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.

The Fall Recreation Program, Sports & Events Guide is available now on the Borough website under Parks & Recreation. Resident registration will open on Community Pass starting Monday August 19. Don't miss out, spaces are limited.

Tenafly School Referendum - Looking for information about the September 17th vote? Check out this five minute VIDEO - and be sure to save the date for Monday, September 9 at 7 pm for an in-person presentation at Tenafly Middle School auditorium (10 Sunset Lane) with an optional tour of the school and the Geissinger Athletic Complex.

Our summer concert series continues at 7 pm next Tuesday, August 20 in Huyler Park with Grammy nominated drummer Richard Baratta’s Latin Jazz Gotham City Septet. Then on Thursday August 22 experience the pop and folk from Ireland’s County Donegal with the Screaming Orphans. In case of rain the show will move to the High School auditorium.

Thank you to the volunteers that created the Tiger Courtyard at Borough Hall, adjacent to the Library. Please join us at the dedication ceremony this coming Tuesday, August 20 at 6:00 PM. When you have a moment make a visit to the Courtyard, the artwork is beautiful.

Tenafly School Athletics starts in full this Monday. Please remember that the track at Geissinger Field is closed during practices.

Only two weekends left to enjoy time with butterflies at the Nature Center's Butterfly House. We encourage everyone to sign up for feeding times on Saturday or Sunday at tenaflynaturecenter.org.

One week until the Rummage and Bake Sale at the Senior Center. Something for everyone! If you are going to college or just starting out in a new place, they have almost everything you need at a fraction of the cost. All proceeds go to support senior programs. Saturday, August 24 from 9 am to 4 pm and Monday August 26 from 9 am to 11 am. On Monday it is fill a bag for $5.00. See you at the sale.

Save the date for the Revolution Dance Academy’s “Dance in the Park!" in Huyler Park, Monday August 26 from 3 pm to 5 pm.

Join in an Outer Space Adventure August 26, 27, and 28, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, ages 4 years to 5th grade. Enjoy new friends, amazing experiments, games, snacks, and music. RSVP by August 21 to 201-567-0111. Suggested donation of $25 per child, Presbyterian Church, 55 Magnolia Avenue.

The Tenafly Welcome! committee would like to welcome our new residents from September 2023 to the present date to the New Residents’ Welcoming Event on September 5, 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Peace Plaza, next to the library. This is a wonderful fun filled evening for the whole family filled with catered hors-d’oeuvres, desserts, balloons and raffle prizes. Check your mail for your personal invitation that will be arriving soon.

The Tenafly students Interact Club is creating a video for Grandparents Day, September 8. The purpose of the video is to encourage people to spend time with Grandparents and Senior family members while engaged in and recording short conversations or activities. Your video, or audio clip with a photo, should be limited to 30-45 second clips. All the completed videos and audio clips will be posted on the Interact Club YouTube Channel. Clips can be submitted to Winsten Lamb at email: 25wlam@tenafly.k12.nj.us The video will premiere on September 9.

The 10th Annual Tenafly Community Night is Tuesday, September 10, 5 pm to 8 pm on Riveredge Road (in front of the Police/Fire Station and in the Borough Parking Lot) presented by Tenafly Recreation and Tenafly Police. Join in for food, drinks, entertainment, amusement rides, DJ, local businesses, emergency service demos, contests, giveaways and more!
