Juvenile Charged in Connection with Shooting in Wayne

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic County Acting Sheriff Gary F. Giardina announce that based upon an investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office, a 16-year-old juvenile, was charged in connection with the August 30, 2024, shooting which occurred at Passaic County Technical Institute in Wayne, New Jersey. The juvenile is charged with acts of juvenile delinquency that would constitute the crimes of Attempted Murder, first degree; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, second degree; and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, second degree, if the juvenile was an adult.

At approximately 7:33 p.m. on August 30, 2024, members of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office were at Passaic County Technical Institute following a football game when a shooting occurred. Police located a 15-year-old juvenile and a 16-year-old juvenile suffering from non-fatal gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey. Police located a potential crime scene in the area where the victims were located. The subsequent investigation revealed a juvenile was responsible for the shooting.

A juvenile delinquency complaint is merely an accusation. Despite these accusations, the juveniles is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The matter has been referred to the Passaic County Family Court, Juvenile Part, for further proceedings.
