Hoboken Police Arrest Blotter Aug 8, 2024 to Aug14, 2024

1. On August 8, 2024, at approximately 4:20 a.m., Police Officers Joshua Campoverde and David Chicara were patrolling the area of City Hall, 94 Washington St., when they saw 47-yearold Stacey Butler of Hoboken, who they knew had an outstanding warrant in Hoboken. The warrant was confirmed and Bulter was placed under arrest. A search incident to arrest found her in possession of a small cylindrical glass pipe, broken in two pieces, burnt at one end, and stuffed with copper wire mesh, all commonly used to ingest suspected CDS crack cocaine. She was found to have warrants in Hoboken for failure to appear, shoplifting, and fare evasion. She also had a warrant for burglary out of Hudson County. She was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. After being processed, Butler was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

2. On August 8, 2024, at approximately 2:25 p.m., Police Officer Harry Montalvo was on patrol near the intersection of Second and Harrison Streets when he saw a man he knew was 54-yearold Edwin Sierra of Hoboken walking and knew Sierra had an outstanding warrant out of Hoboken. Police Officers Jospeh Lupo and Teddy Santiago were also on the scene. Sierra was told to stop, but while officers were confirming the warrant, he ran away. Officers chased him on foot and quickly stopped him. He was placed under arrest for resisting arrest. Sgt. Jason Falco, Detective Michael Losurdo, and Police Officer Nicholas Protopapadakis arrived on the scene. Sierra was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. It was confirmed he had warrants for burglary and theft. He was processed and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

3. On August 8, 2024, at approximately 2:50 p.m., Sgt. William Collins and Police Officers Ronald Kibitlewski, Carmen Benitez, and Aidan Gonzalez responded to Chen’s Kitchen, 301 Jackson St., on reports of a man with a knife. The actor had already left by the time the police arrived. Police Officer Teddy Santiago arrived on scene to assist. Officers used surveillance footage to identify the individual as 26-year-old Kevin Nguyen of Hoboken. An on-scene investigation revealed Nguyen entered the restaurant, ran into the private kitchen, and grabbed a knife before staring at employees who were attempting to keep their distance. He then dropped the knife and went into the bathroom for approximately five minutes before leaving the store. A few minutes later, at about 3:10 p.m., Sgt. Jason Falco saw Nguyen on the 50 block of Washington Street. Det. Fabian Quinones and Police Officer Daniel Grossi responded to that location and placed Nguyen under arrest. A search incident to arrest found him with a glass pipe with a burn mark on the end, commonly used for smoking CDS crack cocaine, and a wooden stick which commonly serves as a push rod. Nguyen was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he was charged with burglary, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Nguyen was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

4. On August 8, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Police Officers Ramon Estrella and Rose Kanan, transported 47-year-old Jahangir Turan of Montvale to Hoboken Police Headquarters from the Morris County Correctional Facility, where he was in custody. He was wanted in Hoboken for a previous charge of stalking. It was discovered he had additional warrants out of the Hudson County Superior Court and the Worcester County Circuit Court. He was processed on those warrants, further charged with being a fugitive from justice, and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

5. On August 8, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Police Officer Christopher Barral observed a woman he knew was 37-year-old Brania Fernandez-Rosario of Hoboken on the 300 block of Bloomfield Street and knew she was wanted by Hoboken Police on multiple warrants. On August 3, 2024, Police Officer Dylan Archilla took a report of a package theft in a gated area on the 500 block of Bloomfield Street. A follow up investigation by Police Officer Nicholas Protopapadakis identified the actor as Fernandez-Rosario and she was charged with burglary and theft. A search incident to arrest on Aug. 8, found Fernandez-Rosario in possession of drug paraphernalia. She was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. She was transported to the Hoboken Police Headquarters where she was processed for charges related to both incidents and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

6. On August 9, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Police Officers Anthony Ingraffia and Joshua Campoverde were conducting a detail check of Brass Rail, 125 Washington St., due to complaints of people sleeping in the outdoor dining area, when they saw a man sleeping under chairs and tables. Officers woke up the man, who was identified as 35-year-old John Haughey of Hoboken. He was issued a summons for defiant trespassing, told that he could not stay in the outdoor dining area, and released from the scene.

7. On August 10, 2024, at approximately 9:10 p.m., while conducting a check of a Hoboken Housing Authority building on the 300 block of Marshall Drive, Police Officers Jessica Arebalo, Jennifer Lee, and Jaydan Gonzalez observed two people laying in between a wall and fence. The individuals, identified as 29-year-old Shakeema Barnes of Jersey City and 31-year-old Alexander Peguero of Bayonne, were placed under arrest for defiant trespassing. Police Officers Ramon Estrella and Remy Garcia-Marte arrived to assist. Barnes and Peguero were transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters to be processed, after which Barnes was released with a summons and a court date. Peguro was also identified as the actor in a shoplifting at Super Foods, 301 Jackson St., the night before. He was found to have two warrants out of Jersey City for criminal mischief and defiant trespass. He was processed on the shoplifting and trespassing charges and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

8. On August 11, 2024, at approximately 9:15 a.m., Police Officers Harry Montalvo and Jessica Pizanie responded to the 700 block of First Street on reports of an individual acting disorderly on a driveway and frightening residents. Sgt. Michael Straten and Officer Tyrone Huggins also responded to the scene. They located the individual, later identified as 47-year-old Jose Gonzalez Avila of Jersey City, around the corner on the 100 block of Marshall Street. Avila became agitated and yelled obscenities directly into the officers' faces. He was advised multiple times to sit down, but he continued to engage in tumultuous behavior. He was arrested for disorderly conduct. While being escorted to a marked car he continued to act aggressively, threw himself on the ground, and kicked one of the officers. Once in the vehicle, he attempted to break a rear window. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct. He was processed and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Center.

9. On August 11, 2024, at approximately 12:10 p.m., Police Officer Roberto Cuevas responded to reports of a car accident near the intersection of 14th and Clinton Streets. When he got to the 1300 block of Clinton Street, the Officer observed a car stopped with the engine running. There were several people standing around the vehicle and the officer observed the driver, later identified as 61-year-old Ernesto Herreria of North Bergen, to be going in and out of consciousness but did not appear to have any obvious injuries. Police Officers Nathaniel Arocho and Anthony Olivera arrived. An on-scene investigation revealed Herreria was in and out of consciousness while his car was driving slowly, and then sped up and hit a bollard. It was also determined he was under the influence and was issued summonses for driving under the influence and reckless driving. A search found him to be in possession of a small empty wax fold suspected to be CDS heroin and a small clear bottle containing an unknown watery brown substance later discovered to be methadone that he did not have a prescription for. Herreria was additionally charged with possession, use, or being under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia. As per John’s Law he was released into the custody of a responsible party.

10. On August 11, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Police Officers Ramon Calderon, Tyrone Huggins, and Kyle Seper were at the corner of Second and Washington Streets and observed two people on a motorcycle and noticed neither were wearing safety helmets, as required by New Jersey State law. The motorcycle was being operated against the flow of traffic, and did not stop at a red traffic light at the intersection of Third and Washington Streets. The officers were on foot, and unable to conduct a motor vehicle stop at that time, but about a half an hour later, they saw the same two people on the same motorcycle ignore another red light, ride up on to the sidewalk and stop on the 200 block of Washington Street, where the passenger got off the bike. When the male driver saw officers walking toward him, he drove the motorcycle directly toward them. The three officers were able to stop the bike from moving, and the driver was informed he was being detained for committing motor vehicle violations. The operator, later identified as 20- year-old Dayvon Chatman of Jersey City, did not have a driver's license on him. He refused to dismount the motorcycle, despite being asked by officers to do so multiple times. It was learned the motorcycle VIN was reported as stolen. Chatman then turned the bike back on and tried to drive away again, but officers were able to detain him and place him under arrest. Chatman was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, and it was learned he had an outstanding warrant out of Hoboken for receiving stolen property. He was charged with aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, and obstruction of the administration of law. He was also issued summonses for failure to maintain the proper lane of traffic, failure to wear an approved DOT helmet while operating a motorcycle, failure to stop at a red traffic signal, driving a motor vehicle on the sidewalk, failure to display a driver’s license, not having liability insurance, and being unlicensed by not having a motorcycle endorsement. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

11. On August 12, 2024, at approximately 9:20 a.m., Sgt. Michael Straten and Police Officer Jessica Pizanie transported 37-year-old Jamaal Gilbert of Newark from the Essex County Correctional Facility to Hoboken Police Headquarters, where Gilbert was processed on a warrant from August 9, 2023, on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also found to have two warrants out of Secaucus for possession of drug paraphernalia and defiant trespassing. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

12. On August 13, 2024, at approximately 2:35 a.m., Police Officers Anthony Ingraffia and Alexander Miller were conducting roving patrol on the 50 block of Washington Street, when they saw a man, they identified as 33-year-old Angel Lopez-Sierra of Waldwick, and they knew he had a warrant for his arrest. When officers told Lopez-Sierra to stop, he did. Police Officers Aaron Font, Shawn Sodora, Teddy Santiago, and Michael Losurdo arrived on scene to assist. The warrant was confirmed, and Lopez-Sierra was placed under arrest and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing. He was wanted in connection to reports of a shoplifting at ACME, 614 Clinton St. on July 27, 2024. That report was taken by Police Officer Kyle Seper, who identified the actor as Lopez-Sierra. Later that day, Police Officer Miller observed Lopez-Sierra in the area of Fifth Street and Marshall Drive. When he was told to stop, he instead rode away on a bicycle. A complaint was issued against him for obstructing the administration of the law and shoplifting. On August 13, after being processed on the shoplifting charge, Lopez-Sierra was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

13. On August 13, 2024, at approximately 8:20 a.m., Police Officers Jonathan Figueroa and Jessica Pizanie responded to CVS, 59 Washington St., on reports of a shoplifting where an actor threatened an employee with violence, if the employee followed him. Police Officers Joseph Lupo and Shyenna Vega located a man who fit the description of the actor on the 200 block of Washington Street. Sgt. Michael Straten, Sgt. Jason Falco, and Sgt. Christopher Labruno arrived on the scene to assist. The actor struggled with officers, causing minor injuries to some of them. He was transported to Police Headquarters, but on the way the man kicked the partition between him and the officers, along with the passenger side window. At police headquarters, the man was identified as 36-year-old Jonathan Berkery of Hoboken and he spat on officers and shouted obscenities at them. Berkery was found to have two warrants from Hoboken for criminal mischief and resisting arrest and one for shoplifting from Jersey City. He was further charged with robbery, throwing bodily fluid, aggravated assault on law enforcement, and resisting arrest. He was remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility
