1. On August 15, 2024, at approximately 9 a.m., Police Officers Roberto Cuevas and Jonathan Figueroa were approached by an individual who told them someone was sleeping in a Hoboken Housing Authority owned courtyard on the 300 block of Harrison Street. Officers saw the man, later identified as 33-year-old Angel Lopez of Hoboken, and learned he had recently stolen someone’s phone, which was found in his possession. The phone was returned to its rightful owner. Lopez was placed under arrest for receiving stolen property and criminal trespassing. He was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility after processing.
2. On August 15, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Sgt. William Collins and Police Officers Ronald Kibitlewski and Alyssa Rivera responded to Walgreens, 1300 Willow Ave., on reports of a shoplifting. Employees had seen a man put multiple items worth a total of $29.50 in a backpack and leave without paying. Police Officers Jonathan Figueroa and Jason Montalvo saw a person who matched a description of the suspect near 11th and Clinton Streets. They approached the man, identified as 35-year-old Christian Davalos of Union City, and found him to be in possession of the stolen items. Davalos was placed under arrest. A search incident to arrest located a cut drinking straw and a push rod, both commonly used to ingest CDS. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with shoplifting and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was found to have a warrant out of Jersey City.
3. On August 15, 2024, at approximately 6 p.m., Police Officers Carmen Benitez and Valentino Salgado were on a walking post on the 200 block of Bloomfield Street when they observed a car parked improperly at a loading zone. It was learned that the driver of the vehicle, 39-year-old Murat Aslan of Cliffside Park had a warrant out of Hoboken for driving while intoxicated. Sgt. William Collins and Police Officer Damien Bates arrived on scene to assist. The vehicle was parked in a legal spot and Aslan was placed under arrest and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and later taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
4. On August 15, 2024, at approximately 10 p.m., Police Officers Matthew Bonanno and Domenick Allegretta transported 46-year-old Bruce Robinson of Paramus to Hoboken Police Headquarters. He was stopped by Paramus Police who discovered he had several warrants, including one out of Hoboken, for driving with a suspended license. He had two other warrants out of Belvidere and Elmwood Park. Once in Hoboken, Robinson was processed and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
5. On August 18, 2024, at approximately 8:10 a.m., Police Officers Jessica Pizanie and Michael Aviles responded to Elizabeth Police Headquarters, to pick up 42-year-old Brain Taylor of Hoboken. Taylor was wanted out of Hoboken on a warrant for disorderly conduct. Once in Hoboken Police Headquarters, he was processed and then transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
6. On August 19, 2024, at approximately 2:40 p.m., Sgt. Frank Rosa and Police Officer Tyrone Huggins responded to the intersection of Newark and Adams Streets on reports of a possible drunk driver. When they arrived, they observed a car parked with the rear bumper partially in the bike lane and the engine still on. The driver, identified as 55-year-old Gerard Stier of Hoboken, was reclined in the driver's seat. Officers approached Stier and smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath and observed his speech to be slow and slurred. Sgt. Michael Straten and Police Officer Kyle Seper arrived on the scene and a standardized field sobriety test was conducted, after which Stier was placed under arrest and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he refused to give breath samples. He was issued summonses for driving while intoxicated and failure to take breath samples. As per John’s Law, Stier was released into the custody of a responsible party.
7. On August 14, 2024, at approximately 3:10 p.m., Detective Paul Quinn and Police Officer Daniela Simone responded to the Seventh and Jackson Resiliency Park on reports of someone drinking alcohol in the park. Upon arrival they observed a man who fit the description sleeping with an unopened can of beer next to him and did not appear to be intoxicated. The man gave a false identity but was later identified as 57-year-old Carlos Arroyo of Hoboken. It was discovered he had an active warrant for shoplifting out of Hoboken. A search incident to arrest located a glass cylinder pipe with what appeared to be residue of CDS cocaine, copper mesh, and a vial containing suspected CDS cocaine. He was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with possession of CDS cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and hindering apprehension. Arroyo was transported to the Hudson Correctional Facility.
8. On August 20, 2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Police Officers Anthony Ingraffia and Teddy Santiago were conducting roving patrol on the 400 block of Marshall Drive when they observed a woman, later identified as 44-year-old Marilyn Rivera of Union City, walking on Hoboken Housing Authority (HHA) property, where she does not live. Police Officers Matthew Bonnano and Ricky Truppner arrived on the scene to assist. She was issued a summons for defiant trespassing, told she could not be on HHA property, and released.
9. On August 20, 2024, at approximately 6:10 p.m., Police Officers Joshua Campoverde and Marc Lombardi responded to the 1500 block of Washington Street on reports of an individual swinging a stick at joggers on a path behind a residential building. Officers arrived and witnesses pointed out a man, later identified as 27-year-old Areje Gaymes of New York City, who was in possession of a pipe approximately five feet long, standing near 16th and Garden Streets. Lt. Donald Rosso and Police Officers Aaron Font, Shawn Sodora, Christopher Soto, Nicholas Losurdo, Anthony Ingraffia, and Teddy Santiago arrived on the scene. Gaymes ignored commands to put down the pipe. Officers used a shield to gain control of the pipe without injury to Gaymes or themselves. Gaymes resisted arrest by tensing up his arms preventing the officers from handcuffing him. When he was in handcuffs, he was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, aggravated assault, and resisting arrest. He was processed and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
10. On August 20, 2024, at approximately 4:10 p.m., after conducting a building sweep on the 300 block of Marshall Drive, Police Officers John Rodriguez and Valentino Salgado observed two individuals sitting on a Hoboken Housing Authority (HHA) picnic table smoking suspected CDS. As the individuals noticed the officers approaching, they quickly concealed their belongings. They were identified as 43-year-old Damont Dyer of Hoboken and 44-year-old Marilyn Rivera of Union City, neither of whom were residents of the HHA. Sgt. William Collins and Police Officers Carmen Benitez and Aidan Gonzalez arrived on the scene to assist. A search incident of Dyer located three glass cylinder smoking pipes with burnt ends and copper mesh. A search incident to arrest of Rivera located two glass cylinder smoking pipes with burnt ends. Dyer and Rivera were transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. It was discovered that Damont had a warrant out of Hoboken for possession of drug paraphernalia. He was further charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and defiant trespassing. Rivera was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and defiant trespassing. They were transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
11. On August 21, 2024, at approximately 5:10 a.m., Police Officers Anthony Ingraffia and Daniela Simone, responded to TD Bank, 47 Newark St., on reports of a person sleeping in the vestibule, blocking customers from accessing the business. Officers approached the individual, identified as 55-year-old Sean Bligent of Jersey City, and told him he couldn’t sleep in vestibules. Bligent was issued a summons for defiant trespassing and released.
12. On August 21, 2024, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Police Officers Valentino Salgado and John Lawton were doing a detail check of Church Square Park, and located 50-year-old Patricia Lavacchi of Union City, who they knew had an active warrant for harassment. Sgt. Tyler Soto, and Police Officers Carmen Benitez, Jairo De La Cruz, Zackary Guido, Enrico Gnassi, and Frank Lombardo arrived on the scene to assist. Lavacchi was ultimately transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
13. On August 21, 2024, at approximately 11:35 p.m., Police Officers Rose Kanan and Shyenna Vega were on patrol on the 300 block of Washington Street when they observed 35-year-old Nigil Bowers of Newark laying on a stoop. They knew Bowers had multiple active warrants. Police Officers Joseph Spano, Ricky Truppner, Remy Garcia-Marte, and Mark Mooreman arrived to assist. Nigil was placed under arrest. He had warrants out of Elizabeth, Union Township, and Essex County. He was transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility to be processed on the warrants.
