(Newton, NJ) The Center for Lifelong Learning at Sussex County Community College (SCCC), a collaboration between the Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Senior Services and Sussex County Community College, is hosting free lectures during the months of October and November and a special event in December.

Lecture: “Culture in Art Part One – Artifacts & How They Represent Culture.”
Join Professor Michael Hughes on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., in the Atrium of the Performing Arts Center at SCCC for part one of this four-part series that will span two semesters as he takes us on a tour of art and culture. Professor Hughes will initiate a look at Art History in lesson one titled “What is Culture?”

Lecture: “Meet the Author and Executive Producer David Page: How Creating the TV Show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives Led to Writing His Book Food Americana.”
Join Executive Producer/Author David Page on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., in the Tiered Lecture Hall, Room 232 in the Performing Arts Center at SCCC and hear how he changed the world of food television when he created the popular television show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

Lecture: “Untangling the Intricacies of Medicare with Janeen and Megan Brady.”
Join Janeen and Megan Brady from Cornerstone Health Benefits on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., in the Atrium of the Performing Arts Center at SCCC as they share their Medicare knowledge with you.

Lecture: “Culture in Art – Artifacts & How They Represent Culture.”
Join Professor Michael Hughes on Friday, November 1, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., in the Atrium of the Performing Arts Center at SCCC for part two of this four-part series that will span two semesters as he takes us on a tour of art and culture. During part two, Professor Hughes will define artifacts and discuss how they represent culture.

Lecture: “The Typhoon of Steel: The Battle of Okinawa.”
Join Historian Dr. Heidi Weber on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., in the Atrium of the Performing Arts Center at SCCC for a fascinating exploration of Okinawa’s history and its connection to the American experience during WWII.

Celebration Luncheon: Be Our Guests.
Come and celebrate the 9th Anniversary of the active partnership between Sussex County Community College and the Sussex County Division of Senior Services on Friday, December 6, 2024, from noon to 1:45 p.m. Join us for a buffet lunch in the Performing Arts Atrium. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet the Senior Services Division and Center for Lifelong Learning staff and learn about the programs and services that are available to Sussex County seniors through the Division of Senior Services, the College and the Center. Registration for this event does not begin until November 1. Space is very limited.
