Two Men Arrested for Breaking into Cars at Secaucus Business

On September 25, 2024, at 3:58 P.M., Secaucus Police responded to the parking log lot of the Restaruant Depot, 777 Secaucus Road, on a report of two men burglarizing vehicles. According to witnesses, two males utilized a tool, believed to be a screwdriver, to enter a parked Dodge Ram pickup truck. Cash along with some other personal items were stolen from the vehicle.

Upon arrival, Police Officer Jaden Gonzalez observed Travis Murphy and Jed McDougal, both of Brooklyn, NY, who fit the description of the burglars, leaving the parking lot in a vehicle where he stopped them. In addition to a witness identifying Travis Murphy and Jed McDougal as the burglars, a screwdriver and proceeds from the burglary were found inside Travis Murphy’s and Jed McDougal’s vehicle during a search. At the time of their arrest Travis Murphy provided false information regarding his identity.

“The Patrol Division is the backbone of every police department,” Chief Dennis Miller said. “These arrests serve as another example that the Secaucus Police Department will respond immediately to reports of criminal activity and apprehend criminals who enter Secaucus and prey on our residents and visitors. I want to thank my officers for their continue commitment to public safety in this community.”

Travis Murphy, 35 and Jed McDougal, 46 were each charged with Burglary [2C:18-2a(1)], Theft [2C:20-3a] and Conspiracy to Commit Burglary & Theft [2C:5-2a(1)/2C:18-2a(1) & 2C:20-3a]. Travis Murphy was also charged with Hindering his own Apprehension [2C:29-3b(4)]. Pursuant to Criminal Justice Reform, both were released, pending their appearance in Court. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
