Tenafly Mayor's Message, October 4, 2024

Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.

In memory of October 7th, the Israeli Scouts will march on Sunday, October 6 at 11:30 am starting and ending at Huyler Park (in front of Cafe Angelique). Afterward, they will help create a meaningful exhibition to honor the victims, fallen soldiers, and to keep hope alive for the return of the 101 hostages.

In Tenafly Public Schools news, voters approved the Tenafly Public Schools referendum. The District looks forward to beginning work on projects that will enhance the learning environment and student experience for years to come. Thanks to the Tenafly community. On Saturday, October 5 adults and children 4 and up can sign up for Crafty Critters. Meet a live animal and explore your creative and crafty side! After an up close visit with one of the Nature Center's Animal Ambassadors, participants will utilize their imaginations and create an artistic version of our new animal friend. On Sunday, October 6 adults and families can sign up for Apple Cider Making and learn about the history of apple cultivation and cider making and experience one of the original ways of making fresh, crisp apple cider. The Tenafly Library Friends will be presenting a free showing of the 2024 Academy Awards nominated best picture movie, American Fiction. This widely acclaimed film is the latest in the Library Friend's monthly afternoon movie series. So join in this Tuesday, October 8 in the Library's Friends room at 1 pm.

The Korean Community Center is hosting a new art exhibit, the collected drawings of artist John Ebbert. The exhibit runs through October 10 at the KCC on Grove Street.

Mommy, Daddy & Me, every Saturday from 10:00 am to 11:30 am for Ages 5 and under welcome with caregiver. Fun and creative play and social time. The Fall Festival with food, live music, games, and an art exhibit outside in the gardens, or inside if rainy, is Saturday, October 19, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Music for piano performed by Jim Millar of works by Haydn, Berg, Granadas and Chopin on Sunday, October 27 at 4:30 pm in the old stone chapel. All at Presbyterian Church, 55 Magnolia. Get ready for a day of fun at the Tenafly Fall Festival on Sunday, October 20 from Noon to 5:00 pm in Huyler Park, and start preparing your costumes for the town wide contest! Winners awarded in 5 categories: Best Group Costume, Most Original Costume, Scariest Costume, Best Pet Costume, Best DIY Costume. Don’t miss out on the chance to be part of the Tenafly Community fun!

ACEing Autism, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to help children with Autism Spectrum Disorder grow, develop and benefit from social connections and fitness through affordable tennis programming at the JCC. It will run every Sunday until October 20 (except October 13), from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. If you are interested in signing your child up (ages 5-18) to participate, or if high school students and adults want to volunteer - please email kaplenjcc@aceingautism.org.

Save the Date - On Saturday, October 26 from 9:00 am to 12 Noon it’s a Pancake Breakfast and Bake Sale at the Senior Center. This event is open to everyone. More details to follow.

The Community Chest Fall Celebration is Tuesday, October 29 at the Englewood Field Club, featuring Shake, Rattle and Roll Dueling Pianos.
