Arrest Made In Connection With October 5 Paterson Shooting

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer-In-Charge Isa Abbassi announce that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Uvaldo Mora, a 28- years-old male from Paterson, was charged in connection with his involvement in a shoot-out that occurred in the area of Straight Street and Park Avenue in the City of Paterson. Mr. Uvaldo Mora was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, second degree, and Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon, second degree.

On October 8, 2024, at approximately 11:15 p.m., the Paterson Police Department received information that two males, the first male, a 33-years-old from Paterson, and the second male, Uvaldo Mora, were involved in a shoot-out in the area of Straight Street and Park Avenue. The first male was struck in the head and throughout his torso while Mr. Mora received non-life-threatening wounds. The 33-years-old male succumbed to his injuries on October 8, 2024 at approximately 11:00 a.m.

Mr. Mora is currently in custody at the Bergen County Jail awaiting his first appearance at Central Judicial Processing. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office filed a motion for pre-trial detention which will be heard by a Superior Court Judge at a date and time to be determined by the Court.

The crime of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon has a sentencing range of 5 to 10 years in prison; Certain Persons Not to Have a Weapon has a sentencing range of 5 to 10 years.

Criminal complaints are merely accusations. Despite these accusations, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
