1. On September 30th, 2024, during a motor vehicle stop, members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division arrested 32-year-old Amer A. Sarameh of Edgewater, NJ, after discovering that he had an active warrant, issued by the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office in Pennsylvania, with full extradition. Mr. Sarameh was then transported to the Guttenberg Police Department for his arrest processing, where he was charged with being a fugitive from justice [2A:160-10]. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Sarameh was issued his complaint warrant and lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center, awaiting extradition to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
2. On October 1st, 2024, during a motor vehicle stop, members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division arrested 30-year-old Luis M. Perez of Palisades Park, NJ, after discovering that he had an active warrant issued by the North Bergen Municipal Court. During his arrest, Officers discovered that he was in possession of a foldable knife, which Mr. Perez claimed was for self-defense. Mr. Perez was then transported to the Guttenberg Police Department, where he was charged with the possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose [2C:39-4]. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Perez was issued numerous summonses for traffic violations, issued his complaint warrant, and then lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center.
3. On October 2nd, 2024, 34-year-old Alfredo Gonzalez of Guttenberg, NJ, walked into the Guttenberg Police Department to speak with officials from the Public Safety Office. During his time inside of the Guttenberg Police Department, Mr. Gonzalez expressed concern over the lighting of an in-door scented candle. Due to this concern, he contacted the Hudson County 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Line to request North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue respond to address the issue. During this 9-1-1 call, Mr. Gonzalez fabricated the need for a fire department response, regarding a non-emergency. Additionally, Mr. Gonzalez requested an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) response to conduct a mental health evaluation of an individual because they lit the scented candle and then fabricated mental health concerns to urge the response further. All of the associated 9-1-1 call recordings were gathered and reviewed. Following the investigation, Mr. Gonzalez was charged with making false public alarm/misuse of a 9-1-1 emergency line [2C:33-3E], a fourth-degree crime, and a complaint warrant was issued for his arrest. Shortly after, Mr. Gonzalez continued to call 9- 1-1 regarding non-emergent parking complaints, at which point members of the Guttenberg Police Department successfully apprehended Mr. Gonzalez on the active complaint warrant. Mr. Gonzalez was then transported to the Guttenberg Police Department for his arrest processing. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Gonzalez was issued his complaint warrant and then lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center.
4. The following is an update related to previously released information regarding the arrest of 34-year-old Alfredo Gonzalez of Guttenberg, NJ, for the misuse of a 9-1-1 emergency line. On October 2nd, 2024, Mr. Gonzalez was arrested, processed, and lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center following an investigation regarding his fabrication of a fire and mental health emergency to elicit an emergency response. Following his arrest, the Guttenberg Police Department was notified by members who work with Hudson County 9-1-1 Emergency Communications, that Mr. Gonzalez had continuously abused the 9-1-1 communications line with non-emergent matters on October 2nd, 2024. At the time that our organization received this information, Mr. Gonzalez had already been lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center. On October 3rd, 2024, Detectives with the Guttenberg Police Department Criminal Investigation’s Bureau were able to retrieve all of the 9-1-1 call recordings, separate from those that had already led to the previous criminal charge. Following the review of these recordings, as the result of the continued criminal investigation, Mr. Gonzalez was also charged with nine (9) counts of false public alarm/misuse of 9-1-1 line [2C:33-3E], fourth-degree crimes, and one (1) count of false reports to law enforcement [2C:28-4B], a fourth-degree crime, after it was discovered that Mr. Gonzalez fabricated that a white Land Rover had pulled over next to him and was going to shoot him. Thankfully, Mr. Gonzalez was located in an area, that at the time of the call, was viewable by our CCTV surveillance cameras. The review of this footage showed that Mr. Gonzalez was not approached by any vehicles, nor did he have any interaction with anyone, other than a few of our Officers who had to respond to countless non-emergent calls that Mr. Gonzalez placed. These additional criminal charges were issued on a complaint warrant. Prior to his release from the Hudson County Correctional Center on October 3rd, 2024, for the original complaint warrant, Mr. Gonzalez was rearrested at the Hudson County Correctional Center, processed on the new complaint warrant, and again lodged inside of the Hudson County Correctional Center.
5. On October 4th, 2024, during a motor vehicle stop, members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division arrested 24-year-old Franklin Y. Saban-Estrada of Fairview, NJ, for driving while intoxicated [39:4-50]. Mr. Saban-Estrada was then transported to the Guttenberg Police Department for his arrest processing. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Saban-Estrada was issued numerous summonses for traffic violations and then released into the custody of a responsible adult.
6. On October 4th, 2024, during a motor vehicle stop, members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division arrested 39-year-old Cesar A. Gonzales of Passaic, NJ, after discovering that he had an active warrant, issued by the Passaic Municipal Court. Mr. Gonzales was then transported to the Guttenberg Police Department for his arrest processing. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Gonzales was released on his own recognizance, pending his next court appearance with the Passaic Municipal Court.
7. On October 5th, 2024, during a motor vehicle stop, members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division arrested 39-year-old Darryl A. Mitchell of East Orange, NJ, for driving while intoxicated [39:4-50]. Mr. Mitchell was then transported to the Guttenberg Police Department for his arrest processing. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Mitchell was issued numerous summonses for traffic violations and then released to the care of staff from the Palisades Medical Center.
8. On October 6th, 2024, members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division received a request for police assistance regarding an issue involving a juvenile. During their on-scene investigation, the juvenile’s mother explained that she went through her ex-boyfriend’s cell-phone and found a video of her juvenile daughter exiting the shower, completely nude. Officers were able to confirm that the video was taken without the juvenile’s knowledge and that she was secretly recorded through a crack/hole in the bathroom door. At that time, Officers of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division arrested a 46-year-old male from Guttenberg, NJ. At this time, the defendant’s name is being withheld in order to protect the juvenile victim and her family. The defendant was processed at the Guttenberg Police Department and charged with endangering the welfare of a child/photographing or filming a child [2C:24-4B(4)], endangering the welfare of a child/sexual conduct by caretaker [2C:24-4A(1)], and knowingly possessing/viewing child pornography [2C:24-4B(5)BIII]. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, the defendant was issued his complaint warrant and then lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center.
