Arrest Made In Connection to Fatal Hit and Run In Passaic

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic Chief of Police Luis A. Guzman announce that based upon an investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and Passaic Police Department, Grzegorz Wolak, 33-years-old from Clifton, New Jersey, was charged in connection to the April 10, 2024, fatal hit and run that occurred in the area of Passaic Avenue and Aycrigg Avenue in Passaic, New Jersey. Grzegorz Wolak was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident, second-degree.

On April 10, 2024, at approximately 11:13 p.m., the Passaic Police Department responded to the intersection of Passaic Avenue and Aycrigg Avenue on a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. The pedestrian, Rachel McNeil, a 58-year-old female from Passaic, New Jersey, was subsequently transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries on April 12, 2024 and was pronounced deceased. The vehicle, a red Ford Explorer, that struck the victim fled the area in an unknown direction. During the investigation, detectives learned that the vehicle was registered and operated by Grzegorz Wolak at the time of the incident.

Grzegorz Wolak is currently in custody awaiting his first appearance at Central Judicial Processing. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office will file a motion for pre-trial detention which will be heard by a Superior Court Judge at a date and time to be determined by the Court.

The crime of Leaving the Scene of an Accident has a sentencing range of 5 to 10 years imprisonment.

Criminal complaints are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
