New York Man Faces New Charges for Sexual Assault in Englewood

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced additional charges against 37-year-old MIGUEL A. CHIMBO-ORELLANA of Queens, NY. These latest charges are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck and the Englewood Police Department under the direction of Chief Thomas Greeley.

As previously reported, on Monday, October 21, 2024, the Englewood Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged kidnapping and sexual assault of an adult that began in August 2024. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Englewood Police Department revealed that MIGUEL A. CHIMBO-ORELLANA kidnapped and sexually assaulted an adult in Englewood, NJ and Queens, NY on multiple occasions, as well as threatened to kill the victim. On Thursday, October 24, 2024, MIGUEL A. CHIMBO-ORELLANA was located and arrested in Englewood, NJ on charges of kidnapping, sexual assault, witness tampering, criminal restraint, terroristic threats and contempt of court.

As a result of the continuing investigation, detectives subsequently determined that MIGUEL A. CHIMBO-ORELLANA did also attempt to sexually assault a child between the ages of 13 to 16 years old, with whom he is acquainted, in Englewood, NJ. On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, MIGUEL A. CHIMBO-ORELLANA was additionally charged with second-degree attempted aggravated sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1 / 2C:14-2a(2)(c); and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1). CHIMBO-ORELLANA remains in custody at the Bergen County Jail pending additional court appearances in Bergen County Superior Court for the various charges filed in this case.

Prosecutor Musella states that all of the charges in this case are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Englewood Police Department for its assistance in this continuing investigation.
