Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.
A recording of the Special Council meeting held this past Wednesday with the Police Chief discussing recent home break-ins and crime prevention is posted on the Borough website. Thanks to the children and Teachers of the Stillman School WITS Club November is recognized as Children’s Product Safety Awareness month by the State of New Jersey and Tenafly. The WITS club reminds us all to enjoy safe toys and products for kids play.
The Tenafly Compost team is hosting its annual pumpkin smash event this Sunday, November 3 from 2 pm to 4 pm in collaboration with the Nature Center. Open and free to everyone. Divert your pumpkins from ending up in the landfill. Bring your pumpkins to the Nature Center, and bring your smashing equipment or use the Centers!
“The Tenafly Library Friends will be presenting their 2nd concert of the year this Sunday at 2 pm at the library. Come join them for a wonderful live concert featuring The Mark Brandenburg Trio with the incredible vocalist Dale Healey. They will be performing songs from the Great American Songbook. This is a free concert, but consider becoming a member of the Friends. Membership cards are at the library front desk.”
Community choir rehearsals starting Wednesdays, November 6, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, culminating in a candlelit service for Advent on Sunday, December 8 at 6:30 pm in the Old Stone Chapel at 55 Magnolia Avenue. Ages 14 and up, everyone welcome.
The Senior Center is holding a Veterans Day Luncheon on Thursday, November 7 at 1:00 pm. This luncheon is being held to honor all Veterans. Please RSVP by November 4 by calling the Center at 201-569-2159.
Register now for the 3rd Annual Friendsgiving event for all 6th to 10th graders to be hosted at the Teen Center on November 15. Registration is open on Community Pass.
The Recreation Winter Program, Sports and Event Guide will be available on November 15. Registration for residents begins November 25. Visit the Borough website under Parks & Recreation for more information.
November is First Responders gratitude month celebrated with a parade on November 21. Be on the watch for details to follow.
An online survey is being conducted to gauge demand for the Tenakill Pool continuing as a municipal pool. Please visit the Borough website News Flash section to voice your opinion and participate in the survey.

Thursday, November 14 at 6 pm is the “Sports Night of Champions” bringing together athletic icons, local legends, and the members of our community to celebrate their impact in the world of sports: not only in New Jersey, but around the globe. Since the founding of the Kurtz Family New Jersey Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2019, the event has also featured the induction ceremony of three classes of prominent leaders and athletic standouts with a connection to the state.
